The note had mentioned a missing kid and after the mess with "Mrs. Barrett", I was running low on cash. Sure; I'd heard about the no business rule, but I've never been one to obey the rules anyway.
Just then, they are interrupted by a Prince barreling towards them. He halts by them, panting.
"My Lord Mandos," he says, his eyes on the Vala as he bows. "Your son. I spoke to Giles -- told him what -- your brother said. He says it is Puck. Robin Goodfellow. A fairy."
"Puck?" His eyes harden. "My brother bargained with Puck?"
That was when Nerdanel came rushing toward them, a stuffed bear in her hands. "This is his favourite toy. He sleeps with it every night. Will that do?"
Faramir nods, eyes moving to the lady as he bows again to her.
"Yes. Seek him -- and you will find the child. I tell you this, my Lord, in the strictest confidence -- if he is in the bar, do not harm him. Please." Faramir would ask Namo not to harm him ANYWAY because he's a hippie pacifist, but there's really only so much you can ask a man to do when his son has been taken from him -- and there's only a percentage of that you can ask a man to do in that situation when the man in question is a god.
"Yeah, that's about as nasty as it gets," I add in. Mostly because I don't have to and partially because it's true. I don't know if this is the Puck from around the Nightside, considering this place had it's own Herne the Hunter who was doing far better than ours, but if they shared any similarities...
Well, whatever the creepy god deemed fair was probably going light on him.
"As for the bear, yeah, that ought to do it."
I look over at the god.
"When I give you a nod, you take my hand, all right? That'll let you see what I see."
A part of me thinks on Jessica Sorrow, on the teddy bear I'd found for her. I wonder if there was anyone who cared about here like these folks seem to care about their little boy. I wonder if she unbelieved in them too.
Then I close my mundane eyes and open up the third eye, my private eye and the world is so much more. It's everything, all at once. I look around, everything blurringnotblurring, and I focus on the teddy bear in my hand as much as I can. A single shape, moving, in another person's arms catches my eye. There some sort of enchantment done, but it doesn't change the baby to my vision, and then he walks through the door
( ... )
I shut down my Gift faster than a hot dog vender in a hurricane and nod my head as my vision goes back to normal. I haven't had it open so long since...
Hell, I can't even remember when I had it open so long without getting interrupted.
...screw Jessica. I wish someone cared about me like that when I was that little. No one knew what my mother had been, or no one was telling anyway, and my father hadn't even cared enough to keep himself alive. Taylor Sr. had drank himself to death over whatever dear old mom had been and he hadn't been happy even before then.

Always a fun endeavour.
"All right," Námo says, then looks at Faramir. "I want my son back. What happens to Puck... can be dealt with later. I just want him back."
Nerdanel hands over the bear, taking Faramir's hand, and watches with hopeful eyes.

But Námo senses.
He sees.
This one... is definately different.
And when he touches him--
"Yes."
He knows.
He now sees the path. He knows where Gabriel is.
And he now knows how to get to him.
"We can go to him now," he breathes, looking at John with a little awe.

"Sounds like a plan, then. I'll, uh, be here."

"You wait here. I will bring him back. I promise."
Námo goes to the door, opening it, and disappears through into Dublin.
Nerdanel looks at John, tears on her face. "Thank you."

"Don't worry about it."

"It isn't common among our kind to have our children taken. I'm... glad you noticed the note."

"Your fee? What is the sum you want? I can settle that while Mandos fetches Feaho."
