Not too far away is a rather morose man with a puppy on his lap who's anything but, sipping from a coffee cup of blood.

Without looking away from the newspaper, "Join me in the booth, Nick."

And then the newspaper's put down, and David looks up at Nick. "Please."

He doesn't move. He's busy scritching the puppy, don't you see, and reading a book and sipping from the mug.

David raises an eyebrow, and leaves the booth (taking the manuscript with him) to sit across from Nick.

"Are you ignoring me?"

Hands on his shoulders and, "Nope, real. And here I thought I was imagining things."

Arms slide around his chest and bassisthead onna shoulder.

He's grinning before Charlie even says anything, and slides his hands to Charlie's, his head tilting to lean against Charlie's head.

"Been busy. Sorry."

"So've I."

He holds out his left hand to show his ring.

Faster's better.

Like ripping the bandaid off quick.

"Well."

Quietly.
