Indy is slouched at the next table. Despite the early evening hour, he's looking a little the worse for wear. Having an all-night farewell Guinness blowout with your favorite nymph will do that to a guy. So, a little paler and more haggard than usual, the scruffy archeologist is toying with something bland and vaguely nutritious—let's say a chicken pot pie. There's a big mug of coffee that is being given far more frequent attention than the food.

At some point the blonde gets a watery smile, out of mere politeness.

He gives it a moment's thought and chuckles again.

"Reckon you're right. Mike too, prob'ly. Kinda comes with the territory."

"They're doomed, yeah."

Her smile is wry.

"Least they don't seem to mind it much."

He jerks his chin up fractionally. "It's kinda your lot too, in a more official sense. Right?"

A nod to her badge. "Here... and back home."

"Kinda, yeah. But at least I got the option to volunteer."

Not like Mel.

"And usually my work's a lot less dramatic than the crap Mel's got to deal with."

Key word here is 'usually'.

"That'll change if you work Security here long enough," he confesses with a grin. "Er... how long have you been stuck here, outta interest?"

She rubs her forehead with one hand, still grinning--if a little wearily.

"'m starting to get that idea, right enough. 've been here six months, so far, and I'm still being surprised by things."

Her lips twist.

"That, and I'm being driven nuts by the fact I've still got open cases back home. Makes me twitchy. You Bound, too? Or no?"

"It's odd. I'm kinda half-Bound, in the sense that I've got a door that lets me out, but nothing that works reliably the other way." He pulls a small amulet out through his collar. "Arithon made this that lets me come back whenever I like now though."

Erin leans over a little to get a look at it.

"Now that's a handy little thing."

She looks up at him.

"You like going home, then?"

He shakes his head.

"Not especially. My life's here."

"My duties are back there though, and I can only neglect 'em for so long at a time."

She sits back.

"Yeah. 's a tricky thing to negotiate, I'd imagine. What kind of things keep you commuting?"

"I'm a professor of archeology at Barnett College, up in Fairfield, New York. And I do commissioned artifact recovery work for the National Museum."

Indy sits back too, restowing the neck piece.

"Not your standard organized dig stuff, if y'know what I mean. Treasure hunter, adventurer, tomb robber, obtainer of rare antiquities... the list goes on."

Rutting hell.

"Sounds busy. Y'got time to breathe, when you're home?"

He cocks a little smile at her.

"This is home for me. And time doesn't move much when I'm here."

"So... yeah."

She snorts, half-laughing.

"Back in your world takes a little too long to say. 'm lazy, when I can be."

Which is . . . well . . . kind of right now?

At least for as long as the conversation lasts.

"Runs in the family," he says with a smirk.

"As do the stunning good looks. Least, on the female side."
