Sheila should spot an exhausted/guilt-ridden/moping brother-in-law fairly quickly.

He hasn't looked up from his coffee.

She has in fact noticed. It was after she sat down, so it takes her a few minutes to get up without spilling things.

She taps her foot, hands on hips, and eyebrow raised.

"Spill."

"We have been tracking a serial killer for the better part of two weeks," he says lowly. "Today, he abducted Sara. She was his intended victim the entire time. We found her though, alive. And he has been captured."

Sheila can probably hear the I'm only human but dammit I should have seen this coming guilt underlying his words.

She frowns.

"She's okay? Sara?"

She sits down and slides her arm round Gil's shoulders.

"Hey. You're only human, sweety. You're not omnipotent and you're not perfect but you do the damned best you can. You got her back, didn't you?"

She is not too far from Amadeo.

No cuddles for him from her.

But she watches him, hatred seething in her eyes.

He's glaring down into his Bloody Mary so that he won't glare at her.

She slow approaches, quiet, intent.

"Don't."

His eyes flick to her.

"Just don't, Claudia; I have nothing to say."
