Alex is curled up on a couch by the fire, reading a thick paperback with a mug of tea on the table beside him.

There is a Fox trying to read over his shoulder.

Not literally. Literally she's trying to read under his elbow.

He blinks and looks down at the fox, shifting his arm a little so she can climb into his lap if she wants to.

"Hello, there," he says softly, reaching to pet her.

Freely offered laps? Always. She crawls into his lap and Fox-grins at him.

"And hello in return."

Which is said while arching her neck so that he gets the right spot.

Talking animals aren't exactly commonplace, but then nothing in Milliways is commonplace, and there's no reason why a nine-tailed fox shouldn't talk. He sets his book down and strokes her fur, smiling a little.

"I'm Alex."

It's a funny thing how people can live in the same associative house but only see each other in Milliways. Tom's met Alex before, to key him to Edmund's rooms, but he hasn't had much of a chance to speak with him.

As he passes through the bar, he decides to take a moment to say hello.

"Alex, good evening. Are you finding the House of Arch to your liking?"

He looks startled, jumping to his feet to bow slightly.

"Lord Ostium, good evening. It's -- I'm enjoying my stay, yes. Thank you again for your hospitality."

To say that Tom didn't like this kind of behavior would be such a lie. He very much likes being a Lord of the House of Arch - that's why it stings so when people like Narcissa Malfoy and Blodwen Rowlands call him on his lordly ambitions.

However, he doesn't have to encourage such behaviors. "PLease, you needn't bow. You're welcome in our house."

"As you like." He hesitates. "I'm feeling a little badly about not contributing anything towards my keep, if I'm to be honest. I've taught before, the sword and mathematics both, so if there's some way that would be useful to you..."
