Mr. Universe is in the bar. His laptop's on the table in front of him, but he's not working with it just now.

Instead, he's re-reading the digital hardcopies of the newsfeeds (prominently featuring Miranda) that Wash gave him for Christmas... reminding himself what he died for.

Yeah, it was worth it.

He's being studied by a seventeen year old pregnant girl with long black hair and too-dreamy grey eyes.

It might be a little disconcerting, really.

Even if she is pretty.

He's not quite as absorbed as he would be if he was programming, but it still takes him a minute or two to notice her.

He looks up slowly, blinking, and smiles.

"Hi."

A small, shy smile.

"Hello. What...what are you doing?"

"Reading the newsfeeds."

He holds one up to show her - the headline's about the Miranda 'controversy'.

And there is a young wizard peering over his shoulder, her own computer skittering behind her.

A glance over his shoulder, then he changes the page away from screenshots of the Alliance doctor and the Reaver. Kid that young doesn't need to see that.

And... is her computer moving?

She gives him a sour, scrunched up look when he changes the page.

"What'd you do that for?"

And yes, it is. Spot climbs up with a few legs onto the counter and Dairine's hand pets the case unconsciously.

"'cause you shouldn't be looking at that. I didn't want to be looking at that anymore."

He stares at Spot.

"KIDNAP THE SANDY CLAWS,
BEAT HIM WITH A STICK."

...okay, that even he can't fail to notice.

He glances up from his reading, blinking.

"LET'S POP 'IM IN A POT!"

He eyes the strange children, vaguely warily.
