At first Tobias had just assumed that Rachel needed space. They both did, from time to time, so that was a perfectly reasonable assumption.
Even if they did usually check in with each other before just disappearing.
And then a week had passed. Two. He'd scoured the forest, coming back only at the end of the day without having found her. Only to be even more disappointed that she hadn't shown up while he was gone.
And then he'd remembered what he'd seen during Valentines Day, and he'd started sleeping in the forest some nights. He'd come back to Rachel's room to check... to see if she'd come back. But that hadn't happened either, and his visits back had become less and less frequent.
And then stopped altogether.
He doesn't know how long it's been now. Without Rachel as an anchor, Tobias has once again stopped paying attention to human timeframes. He flies above the forest most days, hunting. For prey, and sometimes for the eagle who's never there.
He's okay with that, he tells himself. He lived on his own once before. The first time he'd lost her.
He can manage it again.
[Feel free to spot the flying hawk, and even try to get his attention if you can!]
