Ooh, this is interesting. It's such a great insight both into Baltar and Bill. Because I was pretty much ready to dislike Bill in the beginning, what with his dislike of Gaeta and the way he really wants to dismiss Baltar out of hand (I can see how he would dismiss him, but I don't think it's a good idea to dismiss anybody who's gotten so many votes out of hand. Because that's a dismissal of democracy as well, and that's of course what it ended up being in the end, when Bill stopped caring about democracy overall not that much later). Then things get more intriguing when he considers Baltar's behavior and how it pings him as not quite right. Unlike Bill, we know why that's the case, though it does make sense that he just doesn't think about it hard enough, and doesn't have that particular kind of people skills, to figure it out. It's just not that important. And then you cap it off with the comparison with Laura, which is when I can start being on board with this Bill. Because that's a fair enough argument. And it's true, too, that's ( ... )

Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, I tried to stay firmly in Adama's POV. In fact, he's so anti-Baltar, I worried that the parts where he can acknowledge Baltar's skills might be verging on OOC. ;)

How interesting that the lines about Gaeta affected you that way! But yeah, my personal canon is that while Bill never had a strong emotional bond with Gaeta ever, I do think he thought of him in the outer circle of his favored "kids", and that irrationally, he blamed Gaeta for Laura not getting to be president anymore. He internally wished that no one had ever found the fraud, and subconsciously held it against Gaeta that his actions forced Bill to follow his conscience.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked Bill's thought process about something about Baltar doesn't add up. That's definitely the inspiration for this story, but I got interested towards the end about how Bill would compare Baltar and Roslin as presidents - beyond the facile comparisons of "shifty bastard" and "Fleet Mom". ;)
