I booked a couple trips with Contiki - its for 18-35s, but it matches people with singles, so it works pretty well. There are also a bunch of single travel websites, which I once knew about. Also, using the hostel system for accomomdations is a lot cheaper and more conducive to single travel - and you get to see more of the kinds of things that make travel memorable instead of generic.

Contiki is more or less the "organized tours" I mentioned. If you go on something like this you can still book a "will share". This is alright except - a) They never actually go on sale and b) you go where they say, when they say. But that's really my problem. If I want to pay through the nose there are all kinds of tour options, including the singles travel websites you mentioned. I've looked on 4 or 5 of these things. Again their prices tend to be in the "top dollar" range. If you want to pay top dollar you appear to have any number of options - including paying a single supplement on a "vacation deal". I've found (at least lately) that the prices offered by these single tour operators are extrememly comparable to what I can find on my own by paying the single supplement. Except then I get to go where I want, when I want ( ... )
