Even if they absolutely felt they needed to kill off Norrington, there are like, FIVE OR SIX very easy things they could have done to make it, y'know, mean something. I mean- hell, he could have easily become a part of Davey Jones' crew (against his wishes- Jones just being a jerk, that might have been interesting :P) and that would have given them a little more time to give him some goddamn closure.
I mean- I love the movie to death and pieces. It's the most fun I've had at the theater since... okay, since Dead Man's Chest. But still- despite all it's glaring, hideous flaws it gives me that sparkly, shiny, warm "I feel like I'm on a roller coaster yay" excitement that movies should be about. So I can't begrudge it too much.
EXCEPT that you really can't just drop the continuing plot thread of such an important character like that. It's not just "dumb and unfair" from the standpoint of Norrington being one of my favorite characters. It's bad writing, the end.
They probably had another subplot in store for Norrington, but then realized it'd just complicate and extend things further. Either way, I'm looking forward to the DVD release of the movie to hear the commentary on his death.
"Davy Jones? HAHA, man, he was a loser. Love him for it, though."
Oh, oh yeah. That's more or less the reaction I expected too. I agree with you about Tia Dalma in this movie. It's bizarre, and I kept telling myself: "Well, it's a different movie so maybe they-" but the scripts were written together and the movies were shot back to back with overlapping schedules, so uh. What?
I completely agree, with everything. Although personally the wedding scene actually kind of frustrating me. It's was annoying AND fun at the same time for me... thus the frustration. Mixed feelings about it

AGREED.
I never really loved Tia much (mostly because I have no idea what she's saying! D:) but yeah, her character did take a downgrade. I still found the rest of the movie fun (though nothing nearly as cool as the watermill fight).
NO NORRINGTON WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU, YOU SEXY AND NOW DEAD MAN. ;_;
