SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOgood.

Last night I saw Spider-Man 3. I went in to it with the lowest expectations possible so I wouldn't be disappointed and overall, I wasn't, but I still had really mixed thoughts on it. So here's my review with my mixed thoughts separated into the good/bad/neutral categories (and yeah, I'm working on that last meme, so don't panic. And don't forget to ( Read more... )

I agree that Spidey 3 had too many villains. D: They didn't really empathize on the ZOMG EBIL SPIDEY thing, and the film felt more like it was better off with Sandman as the main guy rather than slap Venom at the last minute. Also, according to a cartoon I watched, didn't Mysterio kill Uncle Ben? I don't remember. But it wasn't Sandman.

So it wasn't bad enough to the point of sucking, but it wasn't good enough for me to say "ZOMG I LOVE THIS MOVIE" rather than simply, "Oh, I liked it. It was okay."

Ah well. Time to make fun of Pimp Wannabe!Peter.

I think, had they focused less on Sandman and more on Venom, rather than the other way around, it would've been a better movie. :/ Venom was way cooler, and Sandman's character was just pitiful and boring. Plus I think the writers should've just left Uncle Ben's death alone; it was perfectly done in the first movie, and it was a vital plot point. Going back and changing things was just a waste of time in my opinion.

(This was a phone conversation between me and my friend after both seeing the movie:)

Lauren: I KILLED YOUR UNCLE!
Me: NO I KILLED YOUR UNCLE!
Lauren: I AM YOUR UNCLE!
Me: NOOOOOOO~

ALSO, on the topic of Gwen Stacy, she DIES in the original comic book--Spider Man accidentally snaps her spine when trying to catch her with his web. When she was introduced in the movie, I was giddy in anticipation for her death scene, 'cause I knew it would be awesome and dramatic. I was vastly disappointed when it never came. =___=;

Yeah, she dies during an encounter with the Green Goblin, which is why it's already kinda too late to bring her into the story.

Yeah, the more I think about it, it would've been great if they, along with developing Eddie/Venom more, had Spidey and Venom accidentally killing Gwen. It may mean changing the original story more, but holy crap, you'd have a lot to work with there.

Your good points are agreed. I also loved when Peter freakin' slung the grenade back at Harry. SLOW-MOTION BOOM!

Yeah, Gwen Stacy was an awkward addition to the movie. Personally, I'd have loved to see Black Cat, but I don't know how they'd fit her in it, either. OH WELL.

I was just lawling during the swinger Peter moments. Especially when he came out of the clothing store and danced.

In comparison, the film was more organized than X3, but that's not saying much, right? In any case, I enjoyed it, but like you said, the first two were much better.

If they could squeeze in cameos of Stan Lee, Bruce Campbell, and everyone else, they probably could've gotten Black Cat in there somewhere, too. :[

I amazingly have yet to see an X-Men movie, but I heard about how awful X3 was. Almost tempted to go straight for that one first so I can get through the worst of it. Almost.

Jameson was seriously at his best here. Needed more "NEED MORE PICTURES OF SPIDER-MAN!!!!" moments, but was otherwise one of the best parts about the film.

"How do I shot web?"
"SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD."

I agree with 90% of this post. I think this movie had the worst and the best of the Spider-Man series. The fights scenes were pretty epic. I also agree with the Sandman; although he looked pretty cool, he seemed to me like he wasn't much of an important factor and seemed to bring down Venom's character a bit in the film.

I enjoyed Venom, but I think he should have been introduced in this film much earlier than he was. That and he died all too suddenly.

Gwen Stacy should have been included in the last film. She would have been perfect in the last movie, but now, it seems like they just threw her in for the sake of having her in and to add to story that has about 34823043 other subplots.

I liked it, but I still think it doesn't compare to the first film.

That really about sums it up.

I was also kind of bugged that they never showed Eddie trying to resist Venom's control, which I think was also due to introducing Venom too late.
