Dream Bases

Dec 06, 2006 18:29

My husband is in the process of working up his dream list if bases. How likely are any of the 3 to be picked? Also, Where do you ladies recommened as a first post? HUbby wants an overseas base but with soon to be 2 kids under 16 months I am nervous to be that far. Also, how does the internet and phones work? Is it ridiculously expensive to keep in

As far as the likelihood of one of the 3 being picked it is definitely possible! It is just a matter of who needs what where and how your husband can fit into it. My husband and I are at our choice location now.
I don't know about the overseas bit though. We've never been stationed overseas. Hopefully someone here can help with that!

From our experience and that of a few friends, the chances appear to be pretty low.

My husband didn't get any of his top 3, even though he put Ft Drum as #1 (I was in college nearby at the time), and no one in their right mind would want to go there.

We've never been stationed overseas, but it seems that those who are tend to spend a lot more time deployed.

My husband's favorite base was Ft Lewis, and he says it was beautiful there.

I have read a lot of good things about Fort Lewis. It also looked like there were bases closing in Germany which husband really was interested in. I know they call it a dream sheet for a reason!

While i can't tell you how likely it is to get your dream base as we have yet to get anything we've asked for, i can tell you one thing from experience: don't list 'worldwide volunteer' unless you really, really mean it!

He really wanted Japan and a few other overseas places, and listed them in order. Thinking that he'd increase his chances of getting stationed overseas, he listed worldwide volunteer. Well, he didn't realize that no matter where on your list you put it, that little entry over-rides all the rest. He also didn't realize that the AF considers Alaska overseas! :D

Knowing really is half the battle! LOL

What are the odds...really? simplydorei December 23 2006, 08:16:23 UTC
Oh wow...after i read your post i checked your profile to remind myself where you were and got a major surprise! Like you, i grew up in FL...and then went to CSCC(!!!)...and i'm in grad school for psych in NJ (Seton Hall, though). How wild is that?!? We weren't at CSCC at the same...but still!

Somehow i don't even think SPSS can give me the statistical probability here. :D If you don't mind, i think it's a cosmic imperative of some type that i add you as a friend.
