College credits while deployed

Dec 11, 2008 22:23

Hello everyone,

I'm asking a question here on behalf of my boyfriend. He's in Iraq, and looking to take classes online. Computer access isn't a problem, but he doesn't know where to look for courses. Do any of you know where he could sign up for these classes? Just a starting point would be really useful.

Thanks. :)

Depends entirely on what he wants a degree in.

I think he's looking at biochem or electrical engineering right now.

University of Phoenix has really good programs. My hubby is working through Embry-Riddle's program.

Graduated HS in Oregon, was in Washington before getting deployed. No college credits, I'm pretty sure.

Would I just ask about online community college classes, or what they have available at the state university?

I hate when you have it right on the tip of your tongue. That has been happening a lot to me lately. Like primaries - I couldn't remember that word today, it was so frustrating. LOL

Keiser College has pretty good online classes. It's kinda pricey though.

Have him check out https://www.earmyu.com and look at the school listings. It's all going to depend on what his major is.

I'm glad you posted that. I was just about to! Even if there is an education office on the base where he is at, they would make him get an account on there anyway and I think most of it is done through there, anyway. So long as he is in good standing with the Army (meaning no FLAGs), he'll be fine to get TA.

He better mail those grades in, though or else he's going to be mailed a letter of debt.

He also has to maintain a certain GPA (I think a B?). I could be wrong on that, though. But I'm fairly certain of it. All of that will be explained to him, though, and I think the website covers everything.

I took two TA-paid for classes, but had to drop them because I ended up deploying and would miss too much. :\
