Mostly to Marine Wives off base:

How long did your housing application take?

I love how I haven't even set a date for this wedding [have to wait til he's gets stationed] and I'm stressing about stuff already. I'm making myself sick.

If you plan on renting like an apartment or something, as long as it's available, it should only take about a week. You have to have a credit application done and that's about it. That's not military, that's just life. If you're married, his BAH would show up on his pay when you apply, but if you're not, you'll still have your pays showing up. Basically, what I'm trying to say, you don't have to be married just to apply for off base housing. His BAH will kick in the day you get married, but you won't actually see it until a paycheck or two later. You'll get backdated pay of course, but you won't have it when you first get married. You generally don't have a wait for off base housing if a rental you're looking at is available. And no matter what anyone tells you, you DO NOT have to go through the housing office to get a place. They told us that for Pensacola, too, and it's crap. They want you to so that you don't get screwed, but it's not necessary at all.

I was confusing military run off base housing with REAL off base housing.

They ask you to report there, and he will generally have to have it signed off for him when he reports to his duty station. You do not have to go through them for housing though, at all. It's just recommended.

Well thank you very much. I still have a ways to go before I have to worry about it, but I can't help it.
