Hi, I'm Rhiannon. I'm seventeen years old, a senior in high school in Los Angeles, and I adopted a soldier yesterday.

Basically, I joined a program that was created for soldiers who don't recieve a lot of mail and support from home. The Angels in the Soldiers' Angels network write letters and send care packages to those overseas to remind them that ( Read more... )

Awesome! I joined the community after I adopted a soldier also. Soldiers' Angels is an awesome organization!

You're lucky to have a soldier who writes back. Not a lot of them do. I've had 4, and I only get sporadic contact from one, none from the rest. I'm not even sure if he's coming home this month or planning to stay longer. He hadn't decided a few months ago. But anyway, I'm glad you're here. It's wonderful to see people supporting our soldiers! I'm sure they appreciate it.

yeah, when i got the email i was like NEATO!
it's good to know what he needs, though.
he's dying for dust masks and eye drops because of some horrible sandstorm weather they're having.

BUT THIS IS GOING TO BE SO COOL.

Oh, poor guy. I feel so bad for our guys over there. Missing the little stuff. My first soldier missed Charmin. It's the things we take for granted here. Cheese ... my friend's son was just craving cheese when he was over there. We finally found these cheese made by Babybel that are sealed in a wax-like covering. It keeps them good long enough to get over there.

It is very cool. There's nothing like it.

Oh we have those Babybel cheeses in our fridge right now! :D

Charmin. Awww poor thing.

Yeah, my boys want dust masks and eye drops. I'm also sending Pringles, classic rock CDs, and DVDs I'm going to go buy at the store. :DDD I'm so freakin' excited! I can't wait for my Dad to get back from Seattle so we can go buy everything.

Oh, one more thing, if you haven't already seen this, the post office will send out (free of charge) Military Care Kits, that include flat rate boxes, the necessary tape and customs forms. You can call them at 1-800-610-8734, option #1 and ask for the Military Pack. It's a great thing.

Also, starting this month, you can get a flat rate box 50% larger that ship for only about $2 more, it's a military special available only for packages going to an APO address. They are marked "America Supports You" and the post office will send them to you free of charge. (https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10152&productId=36604&parent_category_rn=)

You may already know this, but I didn't have a clue about it before I joined SA, so ... have fun with this project!

My pleasure. Notes...do you just want a short little note PMed to you for him, or "real" notes sent to you via snail mail? I can't guarantee anything on a regular basis, but I could do a note...maybe get a friend or two to write one also, if you like.

Oh, if you just type up something, I'm going to print it out or handwrite it myself and say it's from you. Get it?

That's awesome! I'm in Soldiers Angels too! I've been writing to mine for a little over a month and adopted a second this month. I haven't heard back from them, but who knows? Even if I don't, at least I have a chance to let them know people care! And yes! I got all sorts of boxes and customs labels and stickers for free! It's awesome!

Thanks!
If you just type something up here, I'll copy and paste it into this word doc I have and save it. When I get enough, I'm going to print it out, and cut it into individual notes. Then, I'm going to send them all in a big envelope. :DDD
I think it'll be a nice treat.
