Worship Center - Just after the Office of Prime (6AM) - Sunday

Jun 17, 2007 08:56

The Worship Center had bells of course, they'd just never been used. But the groundskeeper explaned to Cadfael that the Sheriff had called with news about a missing girl and wanting to get everybody gathered in one place and could he help him find where to ring the bells?

DING DONG DING DONG DING DONG

My goodness. These are very fine bells.

Nick, of course, was there. Sunglasses, notepad, and for some reason, a toothpick dangling between his lips.

He was writing down names as people showed up and making up a search plan for everyone in groups.

If he spoke to anyone, they might have noticed that, for no reason apparent reason at all, his voice had dropped a quarter to half an octave and was as gravelly as if he chain smoked cigarettes every day of his life.

Cadfael left the goundskeeper to make sure the bells kept going for a time as he went down to the main chapel to see if he could be of any service.

DING DONG DING DONG DING DONG.

"You must be the Lord Sheriff I expect?" He ventured. "I'm hope I haven't kept you waiting alone for very long."

Nick turned around. "Yes. And you must be Brother Cadfael. Did your groundskeeper tell you what was going on?"

"He babbled something about a missing girl and I'm afraid that's all I got before he finally burst out with 'BELLS!' and we went looking for the key to the tower."

Pippi had heard the bells and was curious to see what all the ruckus was about.

She rode into the chapel on Old Man.

She'd always wanted to do something like that.

"What's the matter?"

"Ah.... It's not that I don't admire your enthusiasm young lady, but would you mind taking your horse outside?" Cadfael asked. "And tie him off at the front of the chapel?"

"Well, he is house trained... But I'm not sure if he's church trained... So, yeah sure, be right back!"

Cadfael hoped the horse wouldn't find his new gardens, but what will be will be.

Susan was neither deaf nor a heavy sleeper. She would have been hard pressed to not to hear the bells. She'd never actually visited the worship center but she followed the sound of the bells easily enough.

Cadfael noticed the woman as she entered the chapel.

"Good morning my Lady." he said nodding his head to her.

Susan nodded at the robed man, wondering if he was Omnian. The mun is of the opinion that she's probably close enough. "Hello," she glanced towards the bell tower quizzically, "Is something the matter?"

Close enough, I would agree

"There is a girl missing, and I believe the Lord Sheriff wants to organize a search." Cadfael explained.

Somewhere in the back of his mind he vaguely wondered if he should put out some food and drink for the searchers.

Nadia had been woken up by the bells and gone immediately to see what was going on.

"What? Are we being invaded by trolls?"

Susan blinked at the newcomer, "I hope not. I've left my sword at home."

"Well, that was foolish,"

"I'm beginning to think so," she said wryly. Not that a normal sword would do any good against the trolls Susan was familiar with. Not that she bothered with carrying a normal sword. "It seems a girl has gone missing."

Nate hadn't heard the bells before, so this must mean something was up. He was still tugging on his shirt when he arrived at the center.

"What's going on?"

Susan turned and noticed the familiar face.

"Hello, Nate. Something about a missing girl and organizing a search party, I understand. The sheriff hasn't said anything more yet."

Part of Nate was actually happy at the idea of something to do. Course, the other part was worried about whatever the kid might have gotten into.

"Well, good thing I'm here to help," he said.

XD He is such the picture of a grumpy old man in that icon.

Susan nodded, "I imagine he'll be happy with all the help he can get."
