Sarah turned the map over in her hand one more time. She didn't like this. Not the vague sit-rep or that she'd simply been given an address on Thunder Road in this town, and told that everything she needed for her cover would be there, along with further instructions It wasn't the sort of briefing she was used to - Sarah hated going into a ( Read more... )

Chuck was wandering his way back home from a divine leaf outing, making his way through a donut and his coffee as he walked. That wasn't really a sensible idea for anyone, and for Chuck... well, it was probably even less so.

Anyway, he wasn't paying much attention to where he was going.

It was a good donut, okay!

Even when distracted Sarah paid more attention to her surrounding than the average person. She needed to, the details she picked up from a casual glance sometimes the difference between a mission's success and failure. Seeing Chuck, and having him nearly walk into her, however, was not soemthing she was prepared for.

"Chuck?" Her surprise was clear as she stepped out of his way. Was this the mission? This couldn't be conincidence. "What are you doing here?"

Chuck stared, half choked on his donut, and stared a little more as he swallowed and attempted to look composed. He wasn't.

"Sarah?" he managed to get out after a moment. "Do you ever call before you drop in?" This was now the second time she (or a version of her, at the very least) had shown up completely unannounced and scared the hell out of him.

"Before I drop in? I didn't know you were going to be here." Her mind worked quickly, already jumping to the conclusion that he'd followed her here. Their farewell had been brief and stilted - she might have called it awkward if she'd been a bit more honest about things - but she wasn't. "You are supposed to be here, aren't you? Does Casey know you're here? If you've followed me here Chuck, the CIA and the NSA are not going to be happy."

Never mind that she had no idea how he would have even found out the details of her mission, and before she had.

Hopefully, Sarah was ready for a bit of a shock.

Cause there was a big red demon strolling down the road, whistling to himself.

There were quite a few things that Sarah was expecting to see. A very large and very red... man? Not one of them.

"Nice costume," she said slowly, her smile a bit forced as she told herself that it had to be part of some sort of production, or that maybe there was a costume party, "I guess people go all out here."

"Does it show?" Her smile was affable, nothing more than the smile of a girl happy to meet someone else, no matter how strangely they might be dressed. "I didn't think that I still had the sticker on that said newbie."
