Vanessa came in the door, then hesitated. This was very different from the pubs or taverns of her time and she was not quite sure what to do.

"Ah," Vanessa said, nodding slowly. Well, at least she knew now who she would need to bribe should something go wrong.

"I'm Sheriff Nicholas Angel," Nick said. "Are you a student at the school?"

Hopefully it wouldn't come to bribing Nick.

That was generally a good way to get your wrist broken.
