Poetry & Public Speaking Class, The Park, Wednesday Morning (12/18)

Dec 19, 2007 10:54

Geoff assembled his little group of students in the park, where he'd arranged some benches to be used as seating, surrounding a small performance area. He was, of course, perched up on the back of one of the benches rather than sitting on it properly, and stood to address the class ( Read more... )

Make a speech, or recite two poems. Anyone can play, whether you're in the class or not.

This was not Meg's poem, certainly. But it was one of her favorite and she stood up to recite it, letting everyone hear the beauty of it.

"She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that 's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!"

Meg was there, sitting pretty and listening to everyone who came up to recite a poem.

From behind a tree, Sora was half hiding, half sketching at a rapid speed. It was such a beautiful morning, and this was the spot with the most activity. She admired public speakers; she could never do something like that. Even now, she was already half done, having sketched out some of the students, as well as the teacher, plus some rough outlines of the trees.

Geoff spotted the girl hiding behind the tree, although at first he gave no outward indication. Just casually worked his way in that direction, not seeming to notice her, until he was standing close enough that his words could be heard.

"You're welcome to join us if you like," he said, standing with his hands in his pockets and his attention on the student currently reciting.

Sora blinked and looked up, stopping in her process of sketching out the leaves. "Ah... Mmm..." She whined softly, hiding her face behind her sketchbook. She hated it when she was caught like this, but usually, she brought it on herself.

Unexpected periods of AFK is the name of the game today. Work is operating on utter and unnecessary chaos today.
