All Souls, Thursday Evening

Nov 01, 2007 18:56

All Souls was open.

There was a man sitting at one end of the bar. Smoke from his cigarette curled around his face.

He tapped his free hand on the bar in time to the music and smiled.

The lead singer was no Wilson Pickett, but it was still a nice little welcome back ditty.

I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour...

[Open!]

all souls, the master, meg manning, papa midnite, dexter morgan

I'm gonna take you girl and hold you
And do all the things I told you
In the midnight hour
Yes I am
Ooh yes I am
One more thing I just want to say right here

Meg has heard about this place and she chose tonight, for no particular reason, to visit and see what it was like inside. She chose a seat at the bar and listened to the music. So far so good.

Midnite actually preferred that his customers didn't have 'reasons' to come in.

Made trouble less likely.

He nodded to Meg and called the npc bartender's attention to the new customer.

Meg ordered a Shirley Temple and turned her attention towards the dance floor, tapping her fingers almost restlessly against the bartop.

"You seem on edge."

Just because he wasn't behind the bar didn't mean that Midnite couldn't make with the bartender talk.

Startled, Meg looked over. "Do I? I'm not..."

Midnite shrugged.

"I've been wrong before."

Meg sighed softly and admitted because maybe it the mood of the bar, or the tone of the man's voice, but she felt the need to be open. "It's not so much that I'm on edge, but just more of a restlessness, you know?"

Midnite nodded.

He'd left Los Angeles to start up a new bar in a rinky dink little southern town, hadn't he?

"Wanderlust? Or something else?"

She smiled softly. "Not really, I don't think. It's more of a being away from home, lonely sort of feeling." She shrugged a shoulder and took a drink. "But I'm not lonely for home, or my family..."

"Your friends, then?"

"I've made great friends here," she said thoughtfully. "And a few of my friends from back home actually go to school here. So, see? I can't really lay my finger on it." Meg looked down, smiling to herself. "I'm being silly."

"You shouldn't dismiss your feelings so easily."

"I shouldn't," she agreed with a nod and a glance over at him. "But to let my feelings go on as they are would only feed my sensitive nature, and I'm too afraid of wallowing in any sort of self-pity."
