The Park, Friday Evening (09/28)

Sep 28, 2007 17:22

A figure stood near the duck pond in the park, so still that he was almost unrecognizable in the long twilight shadows. He could have been a statue, except for the faint orange glow from the end of a cigarette he held in one hand.

[ooc: Open if you'd like to encounter Az. I will do my very best to be around steadily all evening.]

"What is it with everyone and this duck pond?"

One pale eyebrow quirked upward at the question. And at the man asking it.

"Is there a prize for the answer? Or is that a rhetorical question?"

The Master thought about it for a moment. "I'd have to think of a prize, of course. And you'd have to give the right answer."

"And you're the one who decides what the right answer is?" Az smirked. "That's the sort of ambition gets a man into trouble."

Mac was making the most of the cool evenings again, by going out for a walk.

If she saw someone else around, she didn't really pay much attention to them, just settled on a nearby bench to make the most of the tranquility. Not that there wasn't a whole lot of that around here most of the time, but still.

Az stood and watched the girl on the bench for a bit, although to all outward appearances he was oblivious. Then he spoke, without moving from his spot.

"Don't you know that it isn't polite to intrude on a person's solitude, without at least saying hello?"

"Point was to be unobtrusive as possible," Mac replied after a moment. "Guess I just fail at stealth tonight."

"Apparently so," Az drawled. "Is that your usual evening activity? Sneaking up on people and spying on them?"

This time he turned toward her, eyes narrowed as he assessed the young woman before him. Could be a good time to get started. Who knew how long he had before someone realized he wasn't meant to be here?

After the day that she had at the Leaf, Meg thought a nice quiet walk in the park was necessary.

Unfortunately, she had yet to notice the man she would recognize as her employer.

Perhaps also unfortunately, Az wasn't the sort to call attention to himself until it suited his needs to do so.

So he watched the girl cross the park, his eyes following her movements, but otherwise did nothing to give his presence away.

Not quite yet.

Meg was slowly walking towards him, looking down at her bare feet as she walked along on the grass. Sometimes one just had to take their shoes off to appreciate nature.

Of course that's not what she was thinking. She was thinking about being topless at work today. Dear heavens that was some rude ghost.

Smoke drifted up from the cigarette in Az's hand, filling the air with the scent of cloves and, oddly enough, tea. Once the girl had come within a couple of feet of him, he chuckled low in his throat.

"Looking for something?"

Lana was out enjoying a quiet evening stroll before heading home when she noticed the figure by the duck pond. "Mr. Phale," she said with a smile. "Hello!"

Mister Phale. He'd used a name like that once, back when he'd been trying his hand at playing shopkeeper. Dingy little place in Soho, right next to a bloody bookshop. Place had been always full of people at all hours, that bookshop. It had become annoying.

Az had brought the place to the attention of a local gang of thugs, the sort who dabbled in extortion. Last he'd heard, the whole block had burned to the ground.

Rather than respond, he raised an expectant eyebrow at the young woman.

Lana made her way over to him. "You didn't poke your head in on Monday. I missed seeing you."

"Didn't I? Perhaps time got away from me." Az flicked his fingers and the cigarette flew toward the pond, then burst into a tiny flame and disappeared before it hit the water. "Or perhaps you expect too much."
