"Oh, fine!" Thelma said, bursting out the doors of the dorm house onto the porch. "Be that way. Go off and take care of your mum. God knows nobody is just hanging around, back from the dead just because you got her sacrificed or anything!"

She huffed and sat down on the steps of the porch to pout.

She missed Cassie already.

Malachi had been out for a walk when he spotted a familiar face. "Bad day?" he asked, leaning against the porch rail.

"Killed for her?" Malachi said in surprise, as if he didn't know the story. "How did that happen?"

"Long story, beginning with a no good fallen angel and ending with a no good fallen angel," Thelma said.

"Ah," Malachi said. "I prefer the stories with the good fallen angels."

"Is there such a thing?" Thelma asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Dunno," Malachi shrugged. "Just sounds more pleasant."

Thelma shrugged back. "I suppose," she said. "I'm a bit wary on the subject, given my whole death and all."

"Right," Malachi said. "Sorry, I shouldn't make light."

"You can do whatever you like," Thelma said. "Not like anyone else cares what I think."

"Sounds like you'd rather be alone," Malachi said, standing up.

"Some other time," Thelma said. "Perhaps."

"I'll be around," Malachi said.
