Milieux Medical Center - Tuesday

Cameron had gotten a call asking her to come down and man the clinic for the day.

So there she was, sitting at the front desk when she wasn't checking on patients. It was amazing to her that House had already gotten behind on his charting. She knew that she shouldn't enable him, but she also couldn't let the charting go undone.

"You did -- who the frak gave you the right?" demanded Sam, outrage cutting through the drug haze. He did sit up this time, biting back a pained yelp when his stitches pulled.

Sam stared at her disbelievingly. "I'm gonna be sick," he muttered. "Of all the people . . . never would've thought you'd end up like that."

Sam hadn't been joking the other day when he'd said the drugs were killing his self control.

"The one you want to blame conveniently on me," he said before he could stop the words.

"I'm sorry all this happened to you," he managed. "Don't know what else to say."

"Hell of an answer I'd make," Sam half-snorted. "I'm just a washed up baseball player who hadn't gone home for more than a week or two in twelve, thirteen years."

Sam stared at her. "This wouldn't happen to have involved a priest by a river on some planet covered with tents, would it? Because I had a dream about that once."

He paused. "'course, I woke up with Bel that day."
