I am a gaming whore. I readily admit that. I will go just about anywhere and put up with just about anyone for a good night of gaming. But don't let that give you the impression that I'm cheap. No sir, I'm not one of those gussied up UNO players or, heaven forbid, one of the Go Fish types. I require some sophistication to my games. The more ( Read more... )

Remind me why you don't go to GenCon again? setauuta August 19 2010, 01:36:30 UTC
www.brettspielewelt.de - may not be spelled perfectly, but if you Google "BSW" you'll find it. Many many games, and their English is quite good.

www.yucata.de - closer to play-by-email at times, but again, good variety of games and good English.

Also, if you ever make it to Western Washington, we'll find you a good time. Come around New Year's, and we'll keep you up ALL night. :)

Pandemic! ONLINE PANDEMIC! You gain so many cool points!

I totally do want to come visit you guys sometime. It seems like we'd have some good times. I hated that I never got in on the Civ games.

You say that like Civ is done forever. If you want to play, just let me know. I'll see if Jim and/or John is available.

I'm down for Civ whenever. The weekends are usually pretty frantic, but my weeknights are generally clear. I'm painfully aware that's the opposite of how the rest of the world kinda works though.

Wait, wait, wait. So, you're telling me that I can play Catan and Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride--online?!?!

Unfortunately, my schedule is such that getting a couple of hours in a stretch to game is nigh-impossible, but...man! Let me know when you're looking at playing, and I'd be willing to give it a shot if I'm around. I loved Ticket to Ride the few times I've played it, and I know exactly what you mean by "play the bandit." I love Catan, and Starfarers of Catan (or whatever that space one was called) and Seafarers of Catan. LOVE!

Ticket to Ride and Catan are definitely my favorites, at least until I can figure out how to get a Pandemic game going. That's one I REALLY enjoyed when playing at the gaming club down on the gulf coast. But yeah, definitely let me know when you have a free moment, and we can rock out on some Ticket to Ride or something. :)

Yep! Although AsoBrain has apparently shut down his registration completely after suffering one too many proponents of John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory. Playcatan still works, as does XBox live, if you've access to it.

I've played Ticket to Ride online... the real thing is still better. and I love Pandemic. And Apples to Apples. But my heart still goes out to Doom, the board game. I know, I know, the more hardcore go for Descent, but I found Doom just so much more fun, and I even love being the overlord (muahahahaha!!! Evil laughter ensues). I admit Chaos in the Old World is also quite fun, but still... Doom, baby, Doom. For shorter play I also like Stone Age (recent convert)and Machiavelli of course. And another one with trains, but I can't remember the name and we don't have the game ourselves so I can't look it up either.

I suppose I got lucky, since we have quite a big RPG and board game community living around here. I'll them terribly when we move.

I feel that any board game is better in person, probably for the same reasons I still prefer real books to e-books. There's something to be said for the tactile sensation of it all. Unfortunately for me, as I said, it's just a matter of finding people willing or able to play these games around here. But I'm starting to teach them. If you set the board up, they will play. ;)

Doom was a surprisingly good board game. No shame there. Settlers is my big soft spot, but I REALLY wish I could get a dedicated Pandemic group together.

Hm, I'm not sure such a group would last very long. One of our friends did just that with 2 other people, and he mentioned that, after you've played the game about 20 times with all combinations you get too good and win anytime. Granted, this might shift if play with 4 people all the time, and use the extension as well :) I don't think he used those.

I am ThirdEyeOpen13 at BSW, and still trying to figure out how to work the thing. But I still remember a lot of my German, so that helps.
