Clarification.

My post about Vala was not meant to be mean or hateful, tho, looking at it again, I can see how it could have been interpreted that way. I was just stating how I viewed her in the first episodes of Season 9. It was my fault for not clarifying that.

I don’t hate Vala (but she’s also not my favorite). I actually thought she was pretty kickass in ( Read more... )

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but in reviewing the symptoms of Apsergers, I believe you are in error to assert that Daniel has the syndrome. Indeed having dealt with people with this disorder for the past 25 years, I believe you may in fact be doing a disservice to those who suffer from this disease/syndrome. Here are the basic symptoms and my analysis of Daniel in relation to them ( ... )

Here are the basic symptoms and my analysis of Daniel in relation to them.Working with people who have Asperger's and actually HAVING IT yourself are two completely different things. I think I know the symptoms pretty well since I was diagnosed with it several years ago. A lot of people focus on the 'negative' aspects and the 'abnormalities ( ... )

I have fibromyalgia but I do not have all the symptoms. This list was taken from a website run by credible experts in the field. Many people with aspergers have mild social awkwardness while others are unable to form friendships. The first on the list was an either ir indicated by a slash. Regardless I stand by my original opinion. Daniel displays no signs of aspergers. This "label" is applied as often as ad/hd as a blanket to describe any kind of social awkwardness. Please believe me that I was just expressing my opinion. You gave yours.

If you would like to see a positive and joyful portrayal of a character triumphing over social awkwardness, check out Max on Hawaii 5-o.

You're totally allowed to not see Daniel as having Asperger's. I personally see him as possibly having a very 'mild' case if at all.

Mostly the point I was trying to make is that the list presented is a very extreme case and is not applicable to everyone who is diagnosed. While these experts may be credible in their field, I feel that if they do not live with Asperger's, then they can't truely know everything it entails. (I'd actually like to view your source, if that's okay?)

As someone who has been diagnosed with Asperger's, I find rigid definitions of something that I live with on daily basis to be tiresome. (How's that for irony? :P) I also think that having Asperger's makes it easier to pick up on the subtleties of more mild cases or any little thing that could be interpreted as Aspergian.

A lot of my friends have Asperger's and they're also not a lot like the list describes.

Viewing something from the outside and living it are two different things.

Some people will see Daniel as a woobified, emo gayboy. Some will see him as a cynical, arrogant warrior geek. Some will see him as a self-sacrificing saint & martyr. I see him as a complex mixture of all those things, in varying degrees as he develops through the seasons.

Some people will see you as giddy, fixated fangirl. Some people will see you as an angry, bitter misogynist. Some people will see you as an intelligent, thoughtful & talented writer. I prefer to see you as a complex mixture of all those things, with infinite potential to learn, grow & explore because of your candor, courage & curiosity.

People can say whatever about characters. They're fictional and people are going to have different viewpoints.

I was just trying express mine, but I guess my intentions didn't come across the way I tried to write them? *shrug*

I try my damnedest to make posts about fandom things after a lot of careful consideration and analyzing of the 'facts' (such as they are on TV) as I interpret them.

Other people are going to see those 'facts' differently. If we all saw them the same, society would be very boring.

I always thought the writers sucked when it came to portraying relationships on Stargate, which made me question how they viewed women in general. Claudia Black is an EXCELLENT actress, and while she did play Vala well every way they had her written, I think the straight dramatic character really showed what she was capable of, not the ditzy clinger, and especially not the desperate female stereotype that they also saddled Carter with. I wouldn't have minded the whole D/V thing if it had been handled differently by the writers. And while we're at it, space cadet Jack?....uh...no, please ( ... )

This is the first fandom that I've participated in to this extent, and so far... not very impressed with parts of it...

I'm considering friends-locking my LJ just to scale back the drama, but I shouldn't HAVE to.

Thank you for the kind and thoughtful words. *hugs*

Wow, I was just thinking of the Daniel/Vala "love" scene on the last episode in Season 10. It was so... unnatural.

I was so afraid of her introduction to the show -- now I LOVE her and she is one of my favorite characters. I wouldn't ship her with anyone, except maybe Cam Mitchell because of their previous connection in Farscape ;P

Wait, you watch Stargate? How did I not know this? :D

What happened with that "love" scene is that the writers forgot that Daniel and Vala had, had two seasons worth of character development since they first met and wrote them like they were still at the beginning of Season 9. :P

I actually like Vala in Season 10, but I wouldn't really ship with anyone either. I think she and Daniel are better as (close) friends.
