Long time...hello

Mar 29, 2015 00:52

Long time ago, years and years, I abruptly left fandom (and the internet in general) and focused all that time and energy on real life, which was sorely lacking at the time. And I doubt I'll ever "come back" per se - I can't see myself ever having the time or interest again to really participate - but I could use a break from real life, from time ( Read more... )

Hi Milady. Nice to see you pop back. There's a few of us old-timers still around -- although I'm not near as active as I was at one point. Haven't written any fanfic in over a year.

Elfscribe, oh my goodness - lovely to see you! Being one of my absolute favorite authors in my first fandom and first OTP, and just being really nice besides, it's a treat to see you.

I definitely miss those days. And I'm glad to hear that there are still a few oldbies around. I'll have to poke around and see what sort of fic you've gotten up to and how you're doing. Hope you're well!

Doing okay. It's been a difficult couple of years. Trying to write original fic these days. Don't know what you're interested in but you could check out my work on Silmarillion Writer's Guild (a long novel on the capture of Sauron called Elegy for Numenor which is well received) Also some other fandoms on Archive of Our Own. What are you up to these days?

Ah, you're on AO3, cool - will check it out, especially to see what other fandoms you've done. I've been the very occasional lurker and commenter over there for some time, but I haven't written any fic since I left LJ in '07-08 and haven't gotten into fandom elsewhere -- just no time. I do a lot of writing and editing for my PR-ish RL job, though (but very non-sexy stuff). Life's not bad, now that I'm putting all my energy there and not digressing with online fandom. One has to have some geeky outlet, though, so I went back to my RL Sherlockian roots, and I also fell in with the Renfaire.

Well, ma'am, it is an obscene hour here, so I'd best to bed - 'night, and great seeing you *G* I'll make sure to poke around and see what you've been writing, because if you were that good years ago, you must be truly phenomenal now!

Hey! Great to see you here again! I used to visit you in Philadelphia and we'd talk Orlando and slash! One of the reasons I'm still here is to read the stories being written here. I'm still an Orlando fan.

Every time I have a Starbucks Steamer it makes me think of driving the Turnpike to see you.

Hope all is still well with you and yours!

Slan,

Casey (Mary)

'course I remember you, Casey! In fact, I think you must have been the very first fandom person I ever met :) We met up first in a diner, and it was such naughty fun, giggling to ourselves and trying not to shock the tables around us while we were talking slash & fandom in public. Ah, good times. Then I ended up at your house visiting at one point.

Awesome to see you, and it's so nice to see that there are still some familiar faces around! Really nice too to see that people's loves persist; ya always gotta admire real fans.

All goes apace here, though work's a little more exciting than I'd like at the moment, so maybe that's part of my coming around again, looking for a little break to romp through pleasant pastures. I hope you & your family are making out well too. I'll PM you to catch up.

Welcome back to the mists. I'm in and out myself, but it's a great place to return when you need a break from RL. Ah, the kindred spirits!

Hey lady! You probably don't remember me... I was in college and we met at a mall in Haverford, I think. Talked for hours about Vigorli, were the last people in the restaurant for lunch...the waitress must have thought we were nuts! Anyway, it was so much fun and I was thrilled to meet someone in person who shared my same secret interest. Shortly after I moved to California, and dropped off the face of the earth - but the Hobbit made me all kinds of nostalgic, so I've been poking around a bit myself. Glad to see you around :)

Morgana! *HUGS* Sorry to get back to you so late - apparently I'm checking LJ quarterly. Anyway, yup, I remember meeting in the Philly suburbs - and then sometime later I was at your apt. while you were still in college, not that far from where I'm from. But then you moved to CA, you lucky, lucky stinker! I actually have, in fact, wondered about you from time to time. Hope you're doing well and dead curious what you've gotten up to!

Re: talking slash at diners, I know! XD I think that is one of everybody's favorite memories when they bring fandom into RL, all the tittering while you're talking about the most naughty things in code language/fandom terminology, right next to those nice old seniors or in front of the bewildered waitress. Ah, good times.

Just had a lovely thought. I'm going to go PM the oldbies who've showed up and tell people how to find me on social media :)

Great to see you - thanks for stopping by! *more hugs*
