This just came to me - is making the absence two months long their way of spoofing the hiatus? We all figured they were too deep into filming the rest of S3 to do any hiatus jokes/parodies/metaphors, but perhaps this is a hiatus metaphor they snuck in at the last minute! And considering that this is the last episode before we find out if there's a more perminant hiatus coming - or one that just lasts until next midseason - this could be a very bitterly ironic episode.
