Notes: For the fanmix slam. This was a nice distraction from real world problems so I took a more upbeat approach. While the songs messages fit the back and forth nature of Annie and Jeff in this episode, the songs are on the lively side. I kind of interpreted distance in where Jeff and Annie are in the readiness to be with each other. There is definitely some difference in opinions on whether they can be together. First fanmix posted in years so am curious what people think.
Also, I linked each individual song to a youtube video (no official videos so probably no commercials) if you want to listen that way instead of downloading. I warn you Plan B is some kids weird video, but is the only one I can find of just the song. And Shame on You is on some weird Asian site.

I hear this song and I think of the bathroom scene where I feel like there is this communication gap between them. Jeff just really is not listening to Annie.
2. My Eyes by Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day
Dr. Horrible: But it's plain to see evil inside of me is on the rise
Penny: And it's plain to see rapture inside of me is on the rise
This defintely reminds me of the differences in Annie's and Jeff's outlooks on life, Jeff being negative (Dr. Horrible) and Annie being more optimistic (Penny). Such a great song too. I love Dr. Horrible.

What I mean is, all i need is,

Cause all I see is you not feeling
And you're giving me nothing nice
I tried to do you right, why'd you have to go and turn to ice
This is about Jeff being really cold to Annie during the episode and keeping her at arms length.

Definitely about the push/pull nature of the Jeff and Annie relationship and how Jeff can't just decide how he feels.

If I'd only thought of something
Charming to say
I see this as Jeff letting Annie slip through his fingers and how he just does nothing about it.

They're black, they're so cold, they're so imperfect

I love this song for Jeff and Annie. Jeff is trying to "protect" Annie from Rich but she doesn't want it. This song is really about how Annie does not like how Jeff see's her.

You say why and I say I don't know
Oh no
You say goodbye and I say hello,
This one is kind of obvious. Once again how Annie and Jeff are not on the same page and their difference in opinion on their relationship.

A turning tide
Lovers at a great divide
Why'd you lie
When I know that you hurt inside?
I saw this as Annie wondering why Jeff keeps hiding his feelings and lying to her, creating distance between them.
9. Breakin' by The All-American Rejects
And not a soul sleeps
Another heart skips the beats
With every note that you wrote
And I hope that you choke
On the lines
You're wasting my time
Another heart beats tonight
I think this definitely expresses Annie's frustrations with Jeff as she walks away from him.
10. Plan B by MuteMath
Days are slipping through my hands
I'm holding on in sinking sand
And to make it worse, I've made a mess
Can you make any sense of this.
Jeff wondering whether or not he can fix things with Annie
11. Shame on You by Hot Hot Heat
Running with scissors wasn't smart
I tripped and cut open your heart
I didn't mean to, but I seem to
Have pushed us back to the start
I just love this song and has one of my all time favorite lyrics, which I think fit Annie and Jeff perfectly. Every time they might get close to something, Jeff usually pushes her away which messes these two up.
