Kathy Savitt leaving Yahoo

Oct 11, 2015 15:55

Something that we've never really discussed as a....ahem community, is the little situation with Community's champion, Kathy Savitt, leaving Yahoo a few weeks ago, for another opportunity. I'm not sure that just her leaving has sealed the show's fate, but Dan certainly seems to credit her with playing a huge part in getting a sixth season and would ( Read more... )

I'd rather discuss this.

Can we switch out the posts?

Honestly?

I'd like the topic above to be deleted. I have always been hella uncomfortable making 1-to-1 connection between Community and Dan's personal life, mostly because it's not there for the most part. Do a few elements get in? Yes. But I don't think the correlation has ever been as big as shippers have made it out to be.

Plus, this kind of crap makes us look not only delusional, but kind of like jerks.

I'm honestly not sure what this development might lead to but (and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this) my first thought immediately went to what this could mean for Jeff and Annie. Obviously that's ridiculous to worry first about fictional characters before the actual people involved, but when it comes to J/A, my brain just operates differently. To say nothing of really not even being sure that we'll ever see anything of the pairing again, regardless of Dan's individual situation.

Any level headed show runner would put their feelings aside and do what's best for the show (which obviously is J/A) but then again this is Dan Harmon we're talking about, so hopefully if we do get some sort of continuation of Community he will put his feelings aside and do what is best for J/A

Are you talking about what's best for business? Whenever you have self confessed control freaks like a Vince McMahon or a Dan Harmon running the show their knee jerk reaction is to not give in when the audience tells them what they want to see. It's why it took so long for Daniel Bryan to be pushed or Jeff/Annie to get some sort of closure. Those guys intentionally kept their most over acts on the bench in limbo while trying desperatly to get other things over to the detriment of the product. Both storylines were poorly managed but at least Bryan got his definitive moment at the end even if afterwards it didn't end well. All we got for JA is yet another fanservice moment, clarification after the fact of what the scene was supposed to mean and more postponement of something possibly (but not definitively) happening between them.

I love JA more than, well, so many things in this world...but at the end of the day it feels wrong to be upset about the impact this has on fictional characters when very real people are dealing with something. I want to live in my JA bubble, I really do, but I think this calls for a moment of perspective. Sorry to be "that guy" (girl).

I feel ya and I don't necessarily think you're wrong but I will offer up a few points in rebuttal, if you will. 😀

1. I'm really not 'upset' about the impact it could have on JA, just thought it might be interesting to contemplate said impact. I feel that I have a solid perspective on this and I think most on here do as well.

2. Our group discussing this is going to have exactly no effect whatsoever on Dan and Erin. None. What's done is done and what will be will be. That said, I'm not suggesting we can't be sensitive when talking about it.

3. There's a really good chance that this affects absolutely nothing at all anyway, in terms of Community, as I feel that, all things considered, it's always been a long shot for a movie to actually happen ( ... )

Does anyone else find it odd that we've never really seen anything in terms of metrics, from Yahoo, regarding how Community did for them? I mean I know the streaming companies tend to keep that info private but other than hearing vague comments about it doing better than expected and both Yahoo and advertisers being happy with their investment, one might think that a little more info might come out about it..... Idk, maybe not. I just think it'd be interesting to find out more.
