Here is the setup for ep 606 going online on April 14 - which may be one of those rare Community episodes that seems to spoof something other than a movie or show.
Doing a take-off of the Sony email leaks is a pretty ballsy move considering:
Sony actually pays the bills for Community.
Joel McHale actually did have an email exchange of his leaked. Granted, it wasn't anything terrible, but still.
Alison Brie most likely had a front row seat to the whole thing since she's with Dave Franco and it was The Interview co-starring his brother James that was initially blamed as cause de guerre behind the leaks. Turns out that it wasn't, but the suspicion/confusion/threats by the hackers did affect the movie.
The Interview was widely slammed for being a terrible movie with some racist undertones.
Hmmm, I wonder if this is the episode where Britta is leading the press conference, and where Jeff and Elroy get into it because it comes out that Jeff writes fanmail to astronauts
( ... )
That was very interesting. Can't say I agree with him when he says that it "categorically wasn't [Chevy's] fault" though. I mean, if I say "less" instead of "fewer" when referring to the number of items I have in relation to the amount required for me to go through the express checkout lane, then I have used the wrong word. If I drop the N-bomb in reference to two African American co-workers who are sitting right next to me, that's a bit more significant, I'd say, regardless of context.
Well, yeah. I agree. Just using the n-bomb in general, I don't care who is in the room, falls very deep into the realm of THIS IS NOT OKAY!
I think what Jay was trying to say, albeit awkwardly, was that this was a case where Chevy was trying to make a good point about something, but did it really, really badly. And with his history on the show, no one was terribly inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Although it is one hell of a mystery on who leaked the incident to the press while the cast all went to their separate corners to cool down. Jay seemed to be saying that Yvette was initially blamed, because he singled her out the cast member who came right out and said that she wasn't the leaker.
Haha, well I was being intentionally understated in my response. Unfortunately, you can't hear the tone of voice that's going on in my head, so the sarcasm may have been lost. Basically, what you said in your first line is how I feel.
It did sound like Chevy at least thought Yvette may have been the one who leaked it. But I would be surprised if was actually someone in the cast. But I guess we'll never know for sure.
I did think it was funny that with all the heavy race stuff going on, in the end, Donald was laughing because Chevy was waving his hands around and they happened to be painted yellow and black. That seemed very Troy to me.
Given the new controversy over old racist/sexist Twitter jokes from new Daily Show host Trevor Noah, the whole racism in comedy angle just became even more timely. But they were probably inspired by any number of older controversies on offensive stand up acts.
