veritas724 and I talked tonight about what we could do to rally together our troops. She asked me to post this here, but I have to give the credit to her for suggesting such an amazing idea (so thank you, Kerry!) I know a lot of you are probably discouraged right now. Most of you are downright ticked off at NBC for benching Community mid-season. And I'm not going to sit here and pretend that you don't have the right to be - I will admit that I was definitely quite upset when I first heard the news. After spending some time discussing it with Kerry, we have created a unique medium by which to voice your support for the show.
The majority of you know that Kerry produced a fan video that was eventually homaged in "Paradigms of the Human Memory." She has graciously offered to compile this video project (and projects - more on that momentarily) for us. Basically what we want to do is quite simple: create an initial video that vocalizes our support of Community. Now, please notice that I did not say "and our disappointment with NBC." The purpose of this video is not to bash NBC or any show on its network that is not Community. Dan Harmon wouldn't want us to do that to another show - and let's face it: if our show was successful and another show was benched, we wouldn't want them bashing us either. So let's keep this peaceful. Here, then, is the premise of the video: each of you will send in a one-minute video clip to Kerry (the means by which I will discuss in a minute) with a photo or a sentence or some words about Community on it (i.e.: print off an episode still, a collage of moments, write words like 'witty,' 'fun,' etc.). This part is all about your creativity - express on that paper what the show has meant to you! (And I know we have some talented fan artists around this comm!) Additionally, if you would like to, you may record some dialogue - if you choose this option, please remember to keep the entire clip to one minute or less - also expressing this, while you hold up the paper.
On the OTHER side of the paper, we ask you to write either #StreetsAhead OR #GreendaleIsWhereIBelong (I added that in, Kerry, because I love it!). Those are the only two options, folks. At the very end of the video, please flip your paper from whatever you had on the previous side to display this. (Below is a quick example of mine)
We'd like to gauge how many of you are interested in participating in this initial project - we say initial because we'd like to get one giant video out soon, and over the coming weeks, keep up with the trend (perhaps switching up hashtags, etc.) and keep spreading it around to the world wide Web.
If you are interested in seriously participating, click below the cut for information on how and where to send to Kerry. I'm going to set a date and say that by the time the episode airs this Thursday, we'd like to get a pretty good head count on who is serious about submitting. If you can get your information and video to her by then, that'd be fantastic! If you'd like to participate, follow the instructions below!
Instructions:
1) Film your video. Have fun! Remember: this is a celebration of all things Community! If you own Greendale apparel, feel free to wear it. Otherwise, just don't wear shirts that say like... "I hate NBC" or something.
2) Once your video is filmed, upload it to a file-sharing site (like megaupload, rapidshare, etc.)
3) Send it to Kerry. This can be done one of a few ways: tweet her the link at @TweetingKerry, PM her at
veritas724 here on LiveJournal, or e-mail it to her at kerryveritas724@gmail.com
4) SPREAD THE WORD. Do you have real-life friends who watch the show? Get them involved too!
Additionally, if you all are old-school and want to write letters to NBC (again, not hate mail - that'll get thrown right into the trash), I am more than willing to have you e-mail them to me, and I will send them into the network as one mass document. If you're interested in this, please either PM me here, tweet or DM me at @notajenny, or e-mail me at palindromepoet@hotmail.com and I will be more than happy to compile them.
Regardless, like I said earlier, this is a celebration of our favorite show. I want to also encourage you all to not lose sight of the end goal - I know we are all very riled up today, across the board. But one of the dangers of being riled up right now is that we begin to lose steam. Good ideas fall by the wayside, and I don't want that to happen to us. So come on, M&Ms! Let's show this network what we Community fans are made of: never give up, NEVER surrender!
(In the meantime, keep those tweets coming!)
Edit: Sorry if my initial post is a bit muffled in terms of clarity. Here is a bit of the information broken down that may help:
- Basically just decorate two sides of a piece of paper (or cardboard or really any medium we can read). Film a video of you displaying the first side of the paper - you can also talk while you do so - and at the end of the video, you'll flip the paper to reveal #StreetsAhead written on it (or #GreendaleIsWhereIBelong - your choice!)
- Your video can be a MAXIMUM of 1:00 minute long. It can be as short as you want, but - especially if you are talking - keep the maximum limit in mind.
