Get Well Soon, Burger King

I haven't watched Raw this week yet, but the story is that Jerry "The King" Lawler collapsed during the show while doing color commentary. I don't think the full story is available yet. The way I understand it, he probably had a heart attack, possibly brought on by his working multiple shows over the weekend and all the travel that goes with it ( Read more... )

The latest update is that Lawler suffered a heart attack and he's currently stable in the hospital. They did an angioplasty on him and put a stent in one of his arteries. He is nodding and blinking and stuff, which is a good sign. I haven't seen anyone discuss whether his recent wrestling matches had anything to do with it, but I'm sure it'll be discussed eventually.

The big concern is that he isn't out of the woods, because he was deprived of oxygen during his collapse and there's no way to know just yet whether he suffered any brain damage. (Nobody seems to have kept track of how long he was down before they resuscitated him.) I'd heard they'll have an update today around 1pm EDT, so I assume that's when they'll know the state of his brain at that time.

Either way, I'm guessing Lawler won't be back on TV for a while, but I'm trying to stay optimistic that things can still mostly turn out all right.

I read a story that said he had wrestled for some indy promotions over the weekend, so he had been flying back and forth for several days in a row by the time Raw went on the air. I don't know if that's typical for Lawler or not. My guess is he may have booked some extra work for himself to capitalize on the extra exposure from fighting Punk last week.
