THE REVENANT. Introduction. ;D
'The Concilium was hiding something from us and I knew for sure that Diana had something to do with this.' Chiara looked at Caden hard and thoughtfully. 'You remember what Riley said? Maya wasn't killed by a gang or by a human like Diana kept telling the school. Something else did. Whatever it is, I'm going to find out.' He entered through the double doors of the Concilium Hall and that was the last anyone saw of him.
The Revenant
Student at Marianne Found Dead
“LAST Wednesday a body identified to be David Clark, a high school Junior at MarianneAcademy was found dead in an alley not far from the school premises. He was found lying in a shallow pool of blood and holding an unopened package whose contents have yet to be investigated by authorities. The school suspects gang activities to be the cause.
‘Never have we experienced such a tragedy in our school,’ Dean Diana Wright had said. ‘My students are very much hurt by the loss of a fellow undergraduate and friend…’ [A9: Student…]”
Majority of the student body sat in silence inside the large chapel by the school. Up on the centre of the stage where the altar should have been located was a casket in which David Clark’s lifeless body lay. His face was peaceful compared to how it had been when he was found dead.
While most of the students at Marianne grieved quietly, his closest friends and family-occupying the first rows at the front-wept with great sadness.
“It is unfortunate,” Dean Wright began speaking shakily as she stepped up to the platform. She cleared her throat and gripped the podium lightly for support. “It is unfortunate,” she began again. “That I have called all of you here today to David Clark’s wake.”
She paused and several sobs were heard. “I know David was not a man of rules, however he was good and I saw such values in him as I do in each and every one of you. Anyway…it is never a good time for sorrow as grief and pain always come when least expected.
“We have all experienced such a tragic loss for David Clark was a friend to most of us-if not all. There was a lesson learned here and today which is that life is such a fragile thing and we all must cherish it before our time comes. I would like to thank you for being here and for your sincerity at this point in time.” She paused again.
“Classes are suspended from your next break today until tomorrow. Please feel free to come back anytime and please maintain order upon exit. Thank you.” She stepped away from the podium, down the platform and back into her seat.
Ushers at the sides led students to the exit of the chapel with minimum noise. Outside, Chiara Mortensen waited for her friends who were comforting Maya Becker-a good friend of Dave’s. Chiara wrapped her scarf tighter around her neck. The morning breeze was getting chillier as the autumn continued. She put a gloved hand on Maya’s shoulder as a sign of comfort as she, too, mourned inwardly.
[ Diana's speech is weird-ish. Nagpapa-deepen. Whutts? =)) ]
