someone expressing the fact that they don't consider what you do to be illustration, or even art

What is wrong with people.

Many things.

Actually it was a really weird moment. The human in question knows about all the work I've been doing on my art lately - developing my style, pursuing freelance, etc; but hasn't been doing much himself, as much as he wants too. So he got this idea to do an art homework project, and when asked why, his answer was: "When is the last time any of us did any art?!?"
To which myself and another replied "Last week."
Then "Real illustration work?"
"Yep, last week." Then he got all huffy and stalked off.
It had nothing to do with us really. Which made it kinda funny, but also kind of sad. But also kind of funny.

Best advice I ever got was "Illustration is the art of tricking people into reading bad stories." Mark English said that. And if those drawing don't make you curious about what all that tiny writing is, I'm doing something wrong.
