How can a movie with 414 fans on LiveJournal alone, not have a community? In addition, how can there be nowhere to demand ask for fic? I'm serious, nowhere. I even went to ff.net. Nothing.

For those of you hoping I'll get to a point, I'm talking about October Sky. It's the movie about Homer Hickam and The Rocket Boys and features Jake Gyllenhaal

I came over to your journal to read your fic Bigger than the both of us, but I saw this and had to comment. I know exactly what you mean, I went searching for fic a few months ago and found nothing. If you do happen to locate anything, give me a heads up?

There are three memoirs: Rocket Boys (aka October Sky), The Coalwood Way, and Sky of Stone. All are great reads and will tell you the complete story of The Rocket Boys of Coalwood, West Virginia. Rocket Boys/October Sky is different enough from the movie to make it worth your while to read. There is also a fourth book titled We Are Not Afraid that tells more stories of Coalwood.
