Stupid training graphics

Jan 07, 2010 17:26

Do the folks at the EPA, OSHA, and the Department of Transportation think they're cute by having the HAZMAT training and emergency response refresher course filled with obnoxious little graphics and shit, while being slowly read aloud by an annoying male voice ( Read more... )

*petpet* They do the same in the medical fields. I end up having to listen to them whenever my mother has to do her refreshers. I believe those who create these little blurbs think the General populace are idiots.

Nah, but it's annoying when your not an idiot and you have to put up with it anyway.

Shoot, when I worked at a library that was five stories I had people ask me questions like this:

"Do you have an upper floor?"
Me: "We have 4 of them."
"Do you have stairs?" Note: You see the stairs as you walk in the front door. They're not hidden.

Me: "If you turn to your right, it's right in front of you."

I even had someone ask if they could borrow books. Once while I was answering the phone and then helping that person with a form they asked "Are you open?"

I feel like this icon is relevant to your interests, yes?

I wonder how much $$ those people who come up with those acronyms are paid...

Relevant enough for the sake of argument. :)

And whatever they're paid, they're paid too much. :p

And now I've got to prove that I remember a bunch of stupid acronyms for federal regulations so that the next time some idiot researcher with more technical know-how than common sense decides to douse himself or herself with a toxic chemical, or spill an organic solvent in a public walkway, or cross-contaminate an entire lab with unknown substances, I can try to keep the damage to a minimum.

When, no if, this happenes, just remember this nifty little acronym to plug into the 'conculsion' portion of any form.

Urr.... Not to disagree on substance, but can we please not call them acronyms if we don't pronounce them like words ("NATO", "smof")? I can say "TSTL" as a word -- [ts̩ƛ] -- but I've been doing this all my life, and most English-speakers can't. AFAI'mC, "TSTL" ("tee ess tee ell") is an initialism, not an acronym.

Okay - you got me on that one. Although I *do* like some of these definitions of ACRONYM: http://www.acronymfinder.com/ACRONYM.html

FWIW - sbbreviations like the one I listed come from my 'Not By Any Means Offical, We'd Really Like To Use Them In Our Records, But We'd Be Canned If We Did] list of medical term.
