Now that I finally found Mondo Video, it's closing at the end of the month. And it's across the street from a vegan carnitas and beer place and a place that sells vegan gelato. It's like if there was a god, he'd be grinding his heel on my face ( Read more... )

After watching the trailer, I don't think it's the same movie. The stock looked more like grainy Hitchcockian (which is really paying it more of a complement than it deserves) and the painter really did kind of resemble Dali. In the scene I saw, he bound up a woman so he could frantically paint the scene - like he couldn't get inspiration any other way.

You sorely need another counter-culture movie joint then; we've got two in town... one is strictly rental, the other actually does midnight showings with hosts. I prefer the selection of the former but the community of the latter is awesome.

There's still a bunch like CineFile, next to the Nuart. I just like finding new places, and Mondo Video has a serious DIY crusty basement troll feel to it... in a good way.

I know the feeling, Plan 9 still has a VHS selection for fuck's sake... that makes me terribly happy.
