Quick thing: because his mother was exposed to some enhancement compound while she was pregnant with him, she died while giving birth because of the serum's side-effects and he was born with a brain that developed more quickly than his body could compensate. His intelligence was abnoramlly high, extreme genius-level, but he was in constant pain from the pressure his brain is under. So, the armor that his father was developing when his mother was exposed was re-worked to help suppress Tony's brain pain and help his body process his changes better. It was blue, because of the structure of the formula, I think, but eventually, they were able to alter it resemble his actual skin color and allow him to grow hair.
Anyway, sorry, not trying to sound like a know-it-all ass, just figured I'd share. But yeah, I actually enjoy both versions. Great stories and lots of potential on both ends. But I'm especially looking forward to seeing how standard M.U. Iron Man's world is going to get all fucked up and I guarantee it'll happen soon.
I kinda like Ultimate Iron Man better, because his origin story was just SO off-the-wall different from the original. The MU Stark/Iron Man has needed his origin tweaked so many, MANY times over the years in order to keep it timely & topical, I'd totally given up on any cohesive origin tale altogether.
Personally i prefer Ultimate Iron Man, purely coz even though he is a bit of drunkard, he's got a more kinda 'save the world attitude', as opposed to MU Iron Man, whos kinda taken on an almost supervillain-esc role since Civil War. The Tony Stark we have now is almost on par with the one encountered by the Exiles in that Universe where he rules the world.
