A Rant About Doujinshi Sharing

Nov 27, 2009 18:27

Alright, bear with me here, because I'm potentially going to get a bit bitchy. I won't f-lock this entry; it needs to be heard.

Some of you may be aware that I run a small doujinshi scans comm (dolce_adagio, but this post isn't for pimping my comm). It's a one woman show that I run because I like giving back to the fandom communities that I'm a part of. ( Read more... )

It's already annoying when they do this with doujinshi. But I'm even more annoyed at people who require you to join their comms for a stupid fanfic.

Ah, at least now I know the quality of that Turkey/Greece DJ was bad. Suppose I didn't really miss anything. :/

...People do that? That is so fucking conceited =/.

The doujin itself wasn't very good either. If we're talking about the same one. It was called Stay With Me, I think.

I've seen it more than once in this fandom, and others before I got into Hetalia.

Locked doujinshi communities don't bother me half as much as that what_the_fruk post did. You can at least leave the community after you get what you want, but that was BS. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that the poster shared that gorgeous doujinshi with us and probably bent her book in the process to do so, but since you have to scan all the pages anyways, why not just wait until everything is scanned before posting it so you can do it all at once? IDGI.

I agree that it's more obnoxious to me personally when they make you wait for a download link, since that delays when you can actually get the doujin, but the whole posting a doujin to a community but saying you have to join their community to get the doujin is just more attention whore-ish IMO. Regardless, both suck.

The whole joining a community just to download a doujin annoys the hell out of me. Kudos to them for taking the time to scan and upload, but *really*?

This is also the same for banner/icon posts. Giving credit when you use them is fine and dandy, but having to join your community just to get to them is very lame(and attention whorish). :\

I agree. It's annoying for graphics, too.

Sorry to curse on your journal, but hear fucking hear. I can't stand it when I see "TO GET THE DOWNLOAD LINK JOIN OUR COMMUNITY TEE HEE." It makes me not want to download it just out of spite. I understand wanting to control where your scans are posted, I know I like to, but like you said: Post it in the comm or don't. If you don't want it posted on the main comm, DON'T MAKE A POST ON THE MAIN COMM. Christ, people. *shakes fist*

For future reference, my mouth would probably put many a sailor to shame, so feel free to say fuck whenever you fucking want around here, kay~? x3

And exactly! Ugh, it's so ridiculous. I tend to join the comm and get the doujin if I really want it and then leave. It's just so asinine. I usually avoid even doing that since it ups the number of people downloading the file.

I do understand not wanting to piss off the doujinka, but there's only so much you can do. I try to make it clear that I don't want people parading about posting my doujin scans everywhere under the sun, but people will be dicks regardless, and forcing people to join your comm isn't going to do any good in that regard. I doubt if that's ever their reasoning anyway, though. I'm certain it's attention whoring.

Oh good, so do I. XD

Yeah, I really don't think they give a damn about the doujinshika. Because if they gave a damn about the doujinshika, they wouldn't be scanning it in the first place. The doujinshika may not have any legal standing over their works, but let's face it: Scanning their works is kinda rude. They don't like it. It's not like they don't like it less just because you post it in a locked live journal. It's 100% e-penis. A little e-penis is okay, don't get me wrong, humans have a natural drive to feel superior to everyone else in one way or another, it's just worked into our instincts. But there's a point where you aren't exhibiting a normal level of "Look what I have, love me for it." and you're just being a dickhole. Posting to one community that you have to join another community to get something you're announcing in the first community is being a dickhole.

I may have just pissed off almost every other scanner on the main comm. XD Whatever. Hey, yall who post a JOIN US TO GET THE DOWNLOAD LINK stuff? Yall are

lol yay!

Exactly. My rationale is that, rude as it may be, doujinshi is printed in limited quantities and not everyone is a mental case that wants to shell out cash for it like us. And I feel a lot closer to the people I scan doujin and share with than I do the doujinka. So I'll share. Honestly I get more out of checking the download numbers on my mediafire files re; e-penis than I do who's watching my community. And yeah, once you start getting too weird about it, you're just an asshat.

Agreed. You're the only main comm scanner whose feelings I care about anyway. You're pretty much the only one that posts things which are relevant to my interests xD.

Oh, how very annoying indeed. I can't believe they do that. =/
I do, however, think that posting doujinshi in parts is much more annoying than having to join a community. At least if you join you are in some way connected to a group of people with similar interests, but it's very annoying when someone spams it with a bunch of posts promising something later. I don't know~ haha!

Um, also, on the subject of your doujinshi in hopes of someone translating, I would be very happy to offer my Japanese skills at some point if you ever need it. I'm not entirely fluent, but I've been studying it for the better part of 6 or 7 years. I'd be happy to help you~! (As long as it's outside of midterms and final exams! hehe!)

Well both of them infuriate me. The reason I can tolerate the posting a doujin in different chunks before giving a full download link more than the "you have to join my comm to get the scans" thing is that I can actually see a valid reason for the former. As I mentioned in the initial post, doujin scanning really is a pain in the ass, especially if you're trying to keep your copy nice and not take an exacto knife to the binding. It takes me forever to finish scanning a doujin, just since it takes so much time. So really this is kind of similar to the people on the kink meme that post multipart fills a little at a time. It's annoying, but there is a legit reason by it usually ( ... )
