[random] in which the clueless chemist gets mistaken for a non-Filipina

I get this a lot lately, not being recognized as a Filipina (of course Filipina, not Filipino, since I'm female).  Take your pick--I get spoken to in Dutch by shopkeepers here, my Flemish labmates assumed that I came from the US...and even US seminarians thought I'm American myself.

Oh, boy.  This is troubling.

Yep, it's probably the hair. :p Biro lang.
Honestly though, I'm not surprised by those reactions. WELL... you (and I) don't really fit the typical Filipina image... at least, not physically. (Hay ang cultural stereotypes nga naman... ><) Plus the things that you mentioned as well. So there.
But what's more important is that you are Filipino, in your heart and soul. Show them what we are made of. :)

I understand the Europeans mistaking me for an American...but what shocked me are Americans mistaking me for one of them! O_o;; Lame!

I have a large chunk of work cut out for me in the next few Sundays, it seems.
