30 minutes!

"Huge" starts in 30 minutes on the east coast! ABCFamily network. Also episodes are up online.

You should watch. Because it's awesome and I say so. And mylittleredgirl agrees with me.

You want reasons? OK:
  • It's a show about fat people starring actual fat actors rather than people in fat suits
  • It walks a fine line between grappling with the reality of body-image ( Read more... )

I LOVE THOSE GIRLS SO MUCH. If kids were like that in real life I'd possibly want one.

I figured it was just another in the continual series of shows intended as a vehicle for thin people to make fun of fat people.

Is this not the thin girl reincarnated as a fat girl thing?

I think that's Drop Dead Diva or something. This is definitely a different show.

No! That's "Drop Dead Diva" which I stopped watching because I kept getting annoyed we didn't get a show about the actual fat lawyer and instead it had to be about the thin model in her body .

"Huge" is absolutely not about making fun of fat people! It's about fat camp, yes, but there's quite a bit of quiet mocking of the diet-obsession and the idea of the camp, while at the same time emphasizing the toll that kind of mindset takes on people and how hard it is to be a fat person. There are some heartbreaking moments for me where I go "Oh GOD I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL RIGHT NOW!"

Also it's got a love... erm, it's kind of a rhombus at this point. But there's lots of teen angst and romance and also adult romance (though my one big quibble is with Gina Torres' character, but it's a writing thing) and family stuff. It's really awesome. Great characters. I forget that I'm watching "a show about fat people" a lot of the time.

OH GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

I love every. single. character. They all seem like such real people with complicated motives and age-appropriate attitudes and actions. Even the "background" characters make me cheer constantly because they're all people you can imagine actually KNOWING. I srsly cannot get enough of this show, and practically every line is genius (even when quoted out of context. Stevia? I'd rather lick money!).

I just... I LOVE this show. I would want my kids to watch this so badly. It takes all these kids with their unconventional (for TV) beauty (and their nerdiness, and their issues) and makes them COOL by virtue of them being on TV and being awesome. I have this vision of suddenly all these young people not only embracing who they are... but wanting to hang out with the oddballs in their class. And, of course, diet less. We need to commentspam about the awesomeness of this show a lot, because I have NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THIS. *flails*

I loved the pilot ep and have missed the following episodes. I'm so annoyed with myself for missing them, and equally annoyed with ABC Family for only having the first and current eps available online. I want to catch up, dang it!
