I kind of love it when a post on my flist turns into a group of women in academia offering survival tips to each other. (I had a lunch meeting today that was similar, but one on one. And not, you know, on the internet ( Read more... )

I hate bra shopping with the passion of a million burning suns. I'm never comfortable, I try on tons of types of bras, but one boob is bigger than the other so the cup size always sucks. Always.

It makes me want to cry every damn time.

The only time I had bras that fit well was when I breast feeding my daughter. The specialty shops that I went to that sell only maternity / breast feeding clothes, they had bra fitters who had common sense and YEARS of experience fitting all types of sized women into nursing bras.

:sighs:

Now I'm either aggravated or depressed when I need a new bra.

The best bit of bra buying advice I got was by accident by watching a friend. I am at the other end of the spectrum (and I used to think we had it bad - seriously what do bra makers think about norms???) at 32G, so cup depth is really important. So I learnt by watching a friend to fist my hand and put it in the cup, which tells me if there is enough depth, rather, as is more common, too much width.

I've had good fittings, crap fittings, and in between fittings. The sadness is that finding the right make/style/fit is always trial and error.

You have my sympathy. *hugs*
