Niels, whether or not Alistair "just made a mistake" is one of those things probably best not to debate, since we all have different playthroughs, and some people will think his walking out of the Landsmeet to be extremely selfish and immature, and some think he's entirely justified in doing so. It all depends on how it's played out, really. And even in the fic, Alistair admits that abandoning Elinora just prior to the battle with the Archdemon was one of the worst things he could have done. At least in the context of AMWT, yes: Alistair was a jerk for walking out, and he admits as much in the fic.

And there already is an interlude piece, written by Page, that shows a flashback moment between Alistair and Isabela. It was posted before I posted this trio of ficlets. If you still can't find it, check the "midwinterludes" tag, and you should find it.

Yeah, it's a flashback, set during her time in Amaranthine, years before chapter 1 begins. Since there's reference to her affair with Nathaniel in A Midwinter's Thaw, it made sense to write a flashback-type fic to fill in some of the blanks.
