See, I've watched Friends fairly recently (I do live with Steve Sunu, after all), and I didn't find that - but apparently it's also about people in their 30s, so perhaps that is part of it.
I think what I was trying to say is that Friends had jokes that were relevant and edgy for that specific time. . . and now a lot of those jokes have been played out by lesser writers. Eventually maybe How I Met Your Mother won't seem as funny. But I don't know!
Having absolutely nothing else to do last night, I actually caught the episode so I know what you're talking about.
I found it watchable, primarily because the characters were relatable, but I just don't think I have the patience for traditional sitcoms anymore. There are some exceptions, especially for those that break the mold (e.g. Arrested Development), but anything with a laugh track usually raises my ire.

But yeah, it helps that it's not about 40-somethings or six year olds - and that it doesn't treat being 24 like the *sexiest thing on earth.*
