I also feel like it's a much more psychologically accurate version of early 20s romance-shit than most sitcoms...

I have a feeling that's just cause we *are* in our 20's. I mean, I think Friends must have had that appeal in its day. . .

But yeah, it helps that it's not about 40-somethings or six year olds - and that it doesn't treat being 24 like the *sexiest thing on earth.*

See, I've watched Friends fairly recently (I do live with Steve Sunu, after all), and I didn't find that - but apparently it's also about people in their 30s, so perhaps that is part of it.

I think what I was trying to say is that Friends had jokes that were relevant and edgy for that specific time. . . and now a lot of those jokes have been played out by lesser writers. Eventually maybe How I Met Your Mother won't seem as funny. But I don't know!

Neil Patrick Harris makes the show amazing. I'd still watch it if he wasn't in it, but it wouldn't necessarily be one of my favorite shows.

Having absolutely nothing else to do last night, I actually caught the episode so I know what you're talking about.

I found it watchable, primarily because the characters were relatable, but I just don't think I have the patience for traditional sitcoms anymore. There are some exceptions, especially for those that break the mold (e.g. Arrested Development), but anything with a laugh track usually raises my ire.
