People Really Like Me!!!!!!!!!!

Guess who got third place in the Fangoria 1009 NYC convention. No! Not my MOM. ME!!!!!!!!!!
*ounces up and down like a happy child*

I am sooooooo totally happy. See I have this low esteem issue and only feel I am good at what I do if people I don't know compliment me. I do not listen to my friends because they are my friends and will tell me only good stuff or stuff to make me happy. That is why placing in the top 3 was so good for me. It showed that I can take my costume pieces and makes something full of win. ^_^

I did a surgery version of my Doktor Von Krankesnshaft costume. I made the apron last night from linen I bought and a tote bag I pulled apart from work. You can see the tote bag handle as the neck piece. LOL!!!!!!! The shirt I used the fabric dye on. I like it but wanted it darker. I used acrylic paint on the apron. I did that because the apron does not get washed the way a shirt does. I used the old scissors holster from my Female Butcher photo series and made a new one for the Bone Saw.

The eye wear is the same old Doktor eye wear I made. The same goes for the Steampunk Heart. The make-up used a black contact and the yellow contact. I forgot to put a scar on my face. I also TOTALY FORGOT my Red Fork Empire arm band. I remembered when I put the outfit together at the convention. I was running late today and was getting stuff together between laundry, dishes and getting the costume packed. Plus I had a headache and needed more caffeine.

I had one offer to be put into a movie. The girl who does latex designs for Gwar wants to trade some latex if I make her a set of glasses like mine. She also said my outfit was hot. Gotta love a girl who gets turned on by scary costumes. My kind of freak. ^_^ LOL!!!!!!!! I had my picture taken a lot! It made me so happy. It also made me realize I have not been dressed up like this at a convention in a LONG ASS TIME!!!!!! I saw Voltaire and chatted with him a bit. I had not seen him since zombie karaoke. I met lots of fun people.

I chatted with the first place winner (guy in zombie SFX with bald head with stray hairs, burned flesh and eye coming out of socket). I also congradulated his SFX artist friend. They did a good job. ^_^ I got compliments from lots of people who thought I should have won, That was sweet. Other contestants took my picture with them. I compliment everyone who entered. It is ahrd to get on stage like that. I was all nervous and stuff. I could not hide behind a mask or heavy make-up like usual. >_< Kudos to all those who entered.

With that said I feel the costume quality could have been stronger. THIS IS NEW YORK CITY!!!! We have some great SFX and costume people here!!!! Granted there were some good costmes but I thought the competition would be MUCH HARDER. People need to raise the bar a bit. get some seriouse strong stuff.

One good thing was a guy won several of the costume contests now just shows up and plays around on stage. I like it when people who are really good step aside and let others rise up. It shows that they like to see other people grow and win. That they don't hog the spotlight.

OK. I am really tired. My legs hurt and it has been a LONG ASS DAY!!!! My legs were hurting when I got back. I had not eaten since breakfast and was in need of rest and nourishment. I wanted to go back out for a friend's birthday but my body said no. My body needed time to recover.

I am very happy for myself. I love to dress up and be recognized for my creativity. Sure it is not 1st place but I got lots of compliments. That is what matters to me. People I don;t know saying they like my work and scary look. Sure it is shallow. But it makes me happy in a way that I cannot give to myself. It is a guilty pleasure of mine. One I do not indulge often for fear of being stuck up and self indulgent.

I am Jack's inner child full of squee at the success of being scary and cool...

P.S.
James Marsters had a really good Q and A. I have more respect for him after hearing him talk and seeing how humble he is.
