I'm applying for an internship at the Minnesota Historical Society Press, and they require me to send them a sample of my editing. What constitutes an editing sample? A line-edited copy of a story? A link to Wynken, Blynken, and Nod with a note that I'm an editor? Something else?

I would give them "before" and "after" excerpts of something -- maybe not even your own writing, but a friend's that you helped clean up.

Do they have an email or something you can contact them and ask?

Even after 3 years of Avalon and many more years of "erasing hate speech," I still have to say this:

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod is the gayest name I've ever heard.

No offense, or anything, I'm sure it's a quality magazine. I just had to get that off my chest.

It's named after a famous children's poem, jackass. If you think the title is gay, take it up with Eugene Field (d. 1895).

Oh, I know. I remember the poem and everything. "sailed off in a wooden shoe..." all that good stuff.

Yikes. A wee bit defensive?
