for
riyaynwa. this is a short sequel to
a party for two It’s even later now, almost three in the morning but Xabi can’t sleep. Doesn’t want to if he’s honest with himself. He had turned on the bedside lamp a little while ago and had decided to watch Steven sleep. It’s not like he hasn’t before but he still cannot take his eyes off him.
Curled towards him, Steven sleeps on his side, one arm pillowing his head the other resting on the sheets in between their bodies. Xabi knows he hasn’t been sleeping well, even before the World Cup. He could tell by all their late night conversations they share though the Englishman would never admit it. He never makes excuses for himself, always says he’s fine when Xabi (and the world) knows better. Xabi would admire that quality if it didn’t make his heart hurt.
But he’s sleeping now and quite peacefully so Xabi doesn’t complain or worry too much. He doesn’t dwell on the fact that Steven looks so relaxed either. He must just be relieved to play for his beloved club agan, Xabi rationalizes.
He must be lost in his own thought because he doesn’t hear the soft call of his name. He does however feel the soft touch of fingers curling around his wrist.
“Xabi? Turn off the light, will yer? And come ‘ere.”
Letting out a low chuckle, Xabi shakes his head (at himself) before turning around to turn off the light. When he returns his attention to Steven he’s taken back by how bright his eyes are in the dark. It takes him a moment to breathe properly again before he settles into Steven’s embrace.
“’M so glad.”
That you’re here. That you turned off the light. That club football will start again. It all goes unsaid but Xabi understands - he always does. He just places a soft kiss to Steven’s forehead and closes his eyes. For the moment life could not get any better.
