Salvation Andy's been missing for five days. Takes place after 2007 US Open Quarterfinals match
“Hey, looks like you’re trying to get a hold of me with no luck. Leave a message and maybe I’ll get back to you.”
“Hi, Andy. It’s Roger. It doesn’t look like you’re answering your phone. I just wanted to say that you’ve got some people worried about you. If you want to talk or whatever, call me ok? I-uh… Take care, yeah?”
Closing his phone with a sigh, Roger lays it on the table. No one has been able to reach Andy for five days now, which is a little more than alarming. He didn’t show up at the airport after his lost against Roger in the quarters of the US open. Mardy has called him too, numerous of times, again to no avail. The media had a field day when Andy’s family officially announced that he has been missing.
At first Roger didn’t know what to do. Andy is a friend, an unrequited love but nobody knows about his feelings for the American. So he hid in the background, watching and listening from a distance until he saw Mardy, puffy eyed and sitting alone. The sight broke his heart and he knew, right then and there, that he'd help until he couldn't help anymore.
He’s in Mardy’s hotel room now, sitting on the couch, looking at his phone on the table. Mardy’s in bed, sleeping off another emotionally draining day. He wasn’t going to call Andy, because clearly Andy is screening his calls but earlier when he was scrolling through is phone he saw Rodduck :) and couldn’t help but hit ‘send’. He just wants some indication, any indication that he’s ok, that he’s not…
Roger shakes his head and closes his eyes. No, he’s not going to even think about that; too many implications. Instead, he stands up and makes his way slowly to the bed. He stops at to look at Mardy, peaceful now that he’s asleep and ghosts his fingers over hair. Just as quickly, Roger turns to the empty bed, turns off the lamp, slips into bed and closes his eyes. But it doesn’t help. His thoughts won’t fade from Andy and his silly grin.
