new year

First LJ post of the year, on the day LJ announces they laid off a big chunk of their staff and everyone seems to think they'll be folding soon. I went to the LJ archive website and backed up this journal, not that I've been spending a whole lot of time here lately anyway. Facebook is so much easier -- a one line update, everyone knows you're ( Read more... )

About credit unions... Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) is the best. I looked at the eligibility requirements and it looks like since you'd be living with me that you can join, although I don't understand that bit about an "economic unit". Anybody can also join the credit union after joining the alumni association -- you can then let your membership in the association lapse and still keep your account with the credit union.

I was with you on the fight with Chris. He started the whole thing by telling us to have respect when Obama was being jeered by McCain supporters.

I'm with him on the bank - I use MSUFCU exclusively and have for years. In fact, they're the ones who originally financed our house and also have the loan on both of our cars. They're easy to work with and have very good rates. And mehgary is right - if you'll be living with him you're eligible to join even without being an Alumni Assoc. member. That's how I originally got Alex in. :)

Chris was having a hard day being a Republican, and it took guts to come into what he had to know was a liberal house that night and stand up for his guy (I saw that his Facebook photo is a pic of him standing with McCain). I had also totally missed that lunarbitch sitting behind us had said "Fuck you, McCain" right at the beginning of his speech. Teresa filled in that tidbit for me later in the night, information I could have used before pitching a fit at him in the middle of the living room. He and I had a good conversation later after tensions had wound down, and I think things turned out fine.

i concur with alex (he was the one that suggested haslett road to me). i had the jeep hauled there when it died on the way back from ween acres last summer; the guy i spoke with multiple times was VERY upfront and honest about what was going on with my vehicle, as well as recommendations for things that might be needing repair in the near future, without being pushy, which is a BIG thing for me. they were very reasonably priced as well. and i believe as part of their diagnostic process, they do a gajillion point inspection :)

I like Denny's for car repair. I've been going there for years. What I like best is they will give you recommendations for things that need to be done but not push it. They will tell you how long you have until you need to worry about it or if it something that can wait until you have money. They've never had one price for me (being female) and one for Rich.
