Damon, Hermione and Sansa are all awesome characters. :3 I honestly think Hermione is such a well-written and realistic female character and all the more so because you just don't see female characters like her around.

exactly!! When I actually took the time to sit there and really think about it, I was surprised to find that her brand of intelligence (studious, clever, the whole nine yards really lol) was rarely EVER a defining trait with female characters (I STILL can't think of anyone but Spencer Hastings from PLL where that's the case tbh).

and her flaws were so real (I mean who of us isn't judgmental from time to time, or willing to question the the things we believe in at the tip of a hat?? I certainly can't say I'm not/am lol), and yet they took nothing away from her awesomeness; JKR created a masterpiece *sighs* <333

Ooh these are great choices, and I love seeing so many ladies on your list. :)

Also, I’m fiercely protective of her because she cops A LOT of crap from certain segments of fandom and it often seems to stem from this notion that there is some unwritten “right way” to be a girl that shames all feminine inclinations and those who desire them as, ironically, lacking in female strength (this is often done through comparisons with Arya which breaks my heart because I love both my girls and I think each of them represents a distinct form of strength and I don’t get why everyone can’t be as awesome as the people on my flist and just appreciate their differences instead of turning it into a popularity contest *sobs*). I LOVE THIS. Sansa wasn't my favourite while I watched GoT but fandom/others have made me feel so protective of her because so many people seem to be hard on her - especially in how she measures up to Arya. But I find her incredibly fascinating. And yes, she was very naive when we're first introduced to her - BUT SHE WAS 13. I ( ... )

tbh, I can't claim without a doubt that fandom didn't play a role in Sansa becoming my ultimate fave hehe =p

I mean, she was definitely became of my favorites in light of episodes 8-10 (I started off the series being fond of her and finding it extremely easy to relate to her, but I couldn't have called her a favorite), but my being fiercely protective of her in the face of fandom haters and my constant need to explain why she's wonderful in her own right made me love her all the more <333

I honestly think JKR did young girls (heck, all girls lol) a HUGE service with her creation of Hermione Granger *sighs* <333

So does this mean that you broke down and read the ASOIAF novels? Or are you just getting your info from spoilers ( ... )

haha nope, I'm still holding off on the books until after their respective seasons air, I got my info on Jeyne from spoilers (both casting spoilers for the show and book spoilers).

~POTENTIALLY ALLUDING TO SPOILERS AHEAD (jik someone who hasn't read the books is going through these comments lol)

I'm actually completely unaware of what Bran and Rickon's fates are in the books, but for Jon to be where I want him to be in the fic he has to be Ned's only surviving son sooo yea, I have to make things uber sad :'(

I had a hard time relating to and understanding Effy at certain points in the series as well truth be told (like she went completely beyond me more than a couple of times), but it really wasn't until after I witnessed her entire arc that I really got her and her motivations and now when I rewatch bits and pieces I can actually analyze where she's coming from (most of the time lol).

Sansa is fantastic. I get irritated when people get so obsessed with being "feminists" that they pretty much become "anti-feminists" and ( ... )

LOL, I actually don't know exactly what happens to Bran and Rickon either yet, because I got so invested in Arya that I started just reading her POV chapters to see what happens to her. Now I need to go back and see what happens to everyone else.

Re: Harry. I think the issue there is that, while Harry's flaws are realistic too, they are more alienating flaws. I mean, Harry is a really angsty, broody, self-righteous person. There are times when even Ron and Hermione are like DUDE, STOP WITH THE MOOD SWINGS AND THE OBSESSIONS. Not saying that I don't like him, because I really do, but he's not the warmest character, if you know what I mean. It's hard to feel close to someone who spends all his time feeling MIS.UNDER.STOOD. Basically, Harry is emo. (And being a rather emo person myself, I must say that we are an acquired taste, lol.) So yeah, Ron has a short fuse (although I personally think that Harry's temper is much worse once he gets going), but Ron is also genuinely funny and naturally endearing. And Hermione is simply lovely in ( ... )

hehe I don't blame you, I'm kinda on the edge of my seat trying to figure out just what the heck is going to happen to Arya (I haven't been spoiler in her regard either so I literally have no idea what to think--except that she and Gendry need to go get together when she's older =p)

Harry. I think the issue there is that, while Harry's flaws are realistic too, they are more alienating flaws.

I think you hit the nail!! (y) that definitely explains the "distance" I feel from his character *-)

tbh Damon/Effy and Damon/Blair are two of my favorite crossover couples--like ever (especially Damon/Effy); I think I may have actually combed YouTube for every Damon/Effy fanvid ever made =p

I LOVE THIS POST *__________* I have a lot of issues with Damon's character, but ultimately, he's in my top 5 favorite TVD characters. AND SAAAAAANSA <3__<3 SANSA DESERVES ALL THE LOVE. I'm so very protective of her too, both within the show (I WANT EVERYONE TO STOP BEING MEAN TO HER, I JUST WANT TO GIVE HER A HUG), but also because a lot of the fandom just doesn't like her and I really don't understand why. There's no reason to dislike Sansa--not care for her, okay sure, but I've seen such vitriolic dislike aimed at her and people saying, "I just don't care for her personality" or "she's annoying," or, "she's a bad Stark" (WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAAAAN?) and I JUST WANNA PROTECT HER FROM EVERYONE WHO'S MEAN TO HER AND YELL AT THEM ( ... )

lol yea Damon definitely isn't without is fair share of controversy *-) and as much as I love him, I myself have a few issues--though they mostly revolve around the way the show dishes out consequences where he's concerned (namely with Caroline, killing Jeremy, and now apparently I have reason to fear for how they'll deal with what he did to Andie *is apprehensive*)

haha honestly I can't claim that the fandom hate didn't play a role in my how fiercely protective I am of and how much I favor her =p SANSA STAN TO THE DEATH!! (y)

I think the canon failed her a bit, since she's such an important character and this war is about her as much as it is about Harry, but we never really get to know all that much about her life (what are parents' names, even?)

I know what you mean, so much of what I think I know about her home life has come from fic tbh lol (and the fact that we don't even know her parents' names is just O_O). And I have to second
